It is bothersome to me about the total I don’t care attitude toward the Athletic Programs at WCU by the Students. The Coaches & players on the basketball team are not getting the kind of support from the students these players & Coaches deserve. The team has a 14-2 Record & the Head Coach has to beg the students to attend the game. I’m very disappointed in the students for their lack of school spirit & pride in WCU.

Does it matter that the students are not even in Cullowhee? First day of classes is Tuesday, Jan 16th.

Of the ten SoCon teams, Western's average attandence is #3, behind ETSU and Chattanooga. Not great, but not bad either. Everyone knows attendance at sporting events are on a downward spiral all over the nation, incuding in the power conferences.

I’ve attended 20+ games in the last three years. I promise you that it’s not the students. The students show out, alumni and the community do not. Students probably make up 70% of the crowd on most nights.

The students do in fact show up. When I was a student, the only people there were students. If you sat in the student section and looked across the court, you'd see little to no people. The community and alumni do not do its part to show up. I'd expect a lot more students in the stands now since school is back and it's conference play time. We can't expect the same student attendance that football gets. Football is a completely different environment then basketball, obviously.

Does it matter that Western has around 11 thousand students & have not been supporting the Basketball Team this season. Make excuses for the students & you’ll get the same result. Athletic support by the students sucks based on the existing enrollment at WCU. The Southern Conference sucks because of the number of small private schools.

JIm - I just looked at Alabama's attendance. In a December home game, they had ~10,000 with a student body of 30,000. The same date, we played UNC-A and had 3,000 attendance. About the same stat relative to enrollment and OOC games.

The basketball team passed out hundreds of cookies to everyone in their dorms last night to try to get people to go to the game
