One of the many reasons why we should investigate, before we criticize the coaching staff... I was not meaning to criticize the coaches. Poor wording on my part. Just saying we should not lose these local kids if at all possible. I think it odd that his Twitter page says he is unsigned. It’s along way to Greenville from Sylva. Maybe there is still a chance since he says he is unsigned. Well, all the coaches can do is offer. This kid seems to think (based on his post), ECU is big time football - no one is going to change his mind with an offer from the local "small town" (his words) university.

I think alot of local kids view WCU as a small town school and if they get a P5 or G5 offer they will take it 99% of the time

Mountain schools don’t produce many kids who can compete on those levels (with notable exceptions). As far as Western goes, it cuts both ways. WCU had a shaky reputation among regional coaches for a long while for overlooking their kids. Seems the reputation is improving under Bell both in terms of recruiting and competitiveness. There are probably 10 or so mountain players on the roster now, maybe more. Micah Nelson and Calvin Jones are good examples.

Agree. D1 caliber football players are few and far between in the Mountains. There have been some very good ones that have gone P5. That is why we ought to pull out all stops when there is a kid from Western North Carolina that can play for us. I am sure we made it a top priority to land this kid from Sylva but he did not pick us. Also many kids want to get away from home for college.

I don't have a problem with kids not coming here if they grew up in the area. If they want to stick around, that's fine too but let them spread their wings.
