I think either our women’s basketball head coach job is not attracting the kind of coach that the AD wants or maybe, we are hiring a coach that is an assistant that is still in the tournament. I saw the name of the head guy from Radford mentioned but we would just be saving him from being fired. I also saw the name of the alum that is D2 coach of the year at Georgia Southwestern but no other names. The coach from Georgia Southwestern probably knows how hard it is to win in Cullowhee and might not want it. The Radford guy based on his recent record is no better than what we had or maybe even worse. It is not a very attractive job based on our past performance. With that said, once the new coach is hired, the AD will say that the interest was great, blah, blah, blah but it seems based on the amount of time it is taking, no one any good wants the job. It’s all comes down to spending the money to have a successful program, and like all other teams at Western, athletics is not a priority and everything is done on a shoestring budget. Who can blame a successful coach for not wanting to come to Western where careers come to die.

Hopefully there is a lot of interest in the job. In my opinion, we need a young up and coming coach that can relate to the young women in the program and to potential recruits. We need another coach exactly like Kelly. I wish we could clone Kelly. Well...you may be getting your wish. Kellie Harper was just fired as the coach at Tennessee. Could she come back to the Whee?

She had a good record at Tennessee, she'll have plenty of opportunities

Honestly, I do not think there is much interest in the job. They will tell us there was great interest, but why didn’t we hire Hana if she was interested. Why don’t we pay enough to hire a decent coach? We pay bottom of the barrel and expect to get a good coach. Obviously Ga Southern is considered a better school than Western because athletics is not a priority. I am ok with that but the BOT and Administration need to state publicly that we do no value athletics or competing at the highest level. Instead we continue to lie about it and say we do want to compete for championships. We don’t spend the money necessary to compete where we should.

The bad part is the job now has a reputation. Word hast started to get out about how bad our dept is. People are learning to stay clear of Cullowhee which is sad! I hope someone takes a risk on us.

And Haden was the Div II Coach of the Year. Not bad for a WCU alumna who also worked in the CC office for Julie.
