On the question about other state universities, Florida has 12 schools as part of their University system, but they range wildly from The New College (around 700 students) and FAMU (under 10k) to UCF (over 68k). I always expected FSU (42k) and UF (61k) to be the "big" schools, but I was shocked at the enrollment of schools like FAU (30k), FIU (55k), USF (almost 50k), etc. Even some of the schools who don't play football like UNF, Florida Gulf Coast, or UWF (who recently started) are as big if not bigger than WCU. I think the state still pushes things towards UF, FSU, and UCF (probably in that order), but these others are still big schools that seem to be getting lots of funding, building lots of new buildings, upgrading athletic facilities, etc. And Georgia has 17 state universities and over 30 colleges and technical schools as part of the University System.

not being funny but i have to wonder if the rising costs of college combined with many liberal arts degrees not yielding a positive earning potential led to this In June, when UNC Asheville Chancellor Kimberly van Noort announced the departments she would eliminate following the university’s portfolio review, she cited a “reluctance to scrutinize and evolve our academic offerings” as a major factor that led to declining enrollment and subsequently necessitated the review.
