I watched this post-game presser. This guy, really? He actually said something to the effect that those that focus on yards and running up the score, well, "that sort of thing come back to get you" or such the like. Come on! So his team basically lived his self-fulfilling prophecy. Yes, you guys have in the past "ran up the score" on WCU, and yes, it did come back to bite you this past Saturday Clay. What an entitled brat of a reaction to getting your collective butts handed to you. He would have done the exact same thing to us and for him to react and say the things he said, is just pure intellectual dishonesty. He knows darn good and well that these days, teams have to win and win by as much as they can, especially in the SOCON where we are lucky to get more than one team in the playoffs.
I'm not saying that WCU has arrived or is a playoff caliber team, I have not clue. However, we have to take every opportunity to put the best resume out there whenever we can BECAUSE we are WCU and don't have that "pedigree" like Furman. SO, Clay, take that as tip of the hat from me to the Furman program. You guys have built a reputation and a solid pedigree over the decades and WCU has not. So, pardon us while we try to do what Furman has already done. If your collective feelings get hurt and you are such a snowflake that this hurts your feelings, then so be it.
Maybe this is a bit heated of a reaction from me, but it comes from me disliking Furman more than any team in our conference. Some want us and ETSU to be the top, most heated rivals. Not me. I find it hard to dislike ETSU any where near the level of the Furman teams, fans, coaches.
I agree about the amount of dislike. As a matter of fact, I'd like FU to become the next App State rivals. It's been discussed in the past as to which team makes sense, but over the years, the amount of banter (thank you to some degree - FUBear) has heated up substantially. I have always felt that Furman was a bigger rival compared to ETSU

Screw their whiny little coach. We have had scores run up on us by his team and others in the past, so get over it. There is so much to dislike about him and that program already so this is yet another reason.

They trashed the WCU locker room last year? Yes badly!! That's par for the course for the wine and cheese crowd...

Furman will never see us as a rival, they already have The Citadel and Wofford that they mark on their calendar each year. Both of those games are BIG to Furman fans each year...
However, that does not prevent the Cat fans from disliking the Paladins...

At least coach Clay Hendrix didn't have a crowd in that stadium to see WCU "run up the score". Talk about a low energy atmosphere, geez. If you watch the coaches show (WCU), I like how Bell addressed the perspective Hendrix had about the game and WCU supposedly focused too much on "yards and points". He flat out pointed to the fact that he told opposing coaches at the end of games where they ran up the score that he "appreciated the learning experience". That is the right mindset to have. I still can't get over how Clay reacted to his loss. This guy really believes that other teams should just do their very best to only beat his team by a score or two and let his team stay in games and make it look better for him and his feelings.

There’s no way in hell they had 9,800 there in that stadium. The box score said so, but NO Way!!
