Brett Pope will play baseball at the next level. The West Iredell shortstop confirmed Friday he had given a verbal commitment to Western Carolina. The rising senior can sign a National Letter of Intent in November. As a junior, Pope batted .453 with an on-base percentage of .514. The Warriors’ leadoff hitter scored 21 runs and was 20-for-23 on stolen base attempts. He is a two-time all-North Piedmont Conference honoree. Western Carolina began recruiting Pope last year but ramped up its pursuit this summer, following him closely at several tournaments after West Iredell’s season ended. Pope said he will most likely play in the middle infield at Western Carolina. www.statesville.com/sports/article_e7893fb0-c6a2-52a7-9040-9974309960c0.html

Pope will be coming in just as Aaron Attaway will have departed, so there will be a vacancy in the middle infield. In the fall of 2014, we should still have Bradley Strong (rising SR at that time), Reece Strong & J. D. Long (rising JR's at that time) + whatever middle infielders we have coming in this fall.
I would think that Brett Pope should get some playing time as a Freshman in the Spring of 2015. Love those LH batters!

How about Ryan Arrington? We should find out in a couple of weeks if he's coming or not. I hope he does, but I don't know.

On Catamount Pride, someone posted this link. www.tnutrojans.com/roster/16/8/2361.phpArington is shown on the roster of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. I would guess that he might be planning to go into Christian ministry after college. Trevecca turns out a lot of folks who become Pastors in the Nazarene denomination. I wish him well and Godspeed.

I wish him well and Godspeed. I'm sure he made the best decision for himself, good luck to him.
