If you have not read this article in the Asheville paper please read it. If you do not know by now how big of a piece of you know what this guy is this article will shed light on him along with my knowledge of what he did or actually did not do. I saw the post by someone who was pointing out how much the baseball team really needs and how little they get. Bardo was and is WCU ENEMY #1 when it comes to Western Carolina athletics. Ill tell the story again. When i was at Western we had everything in place to build the clubhouse and install lights. All was being paid for and all the plans were drawn. I would really like to scan the letters i have and post them but i probably should not. But i will give you a quote from one of the letters from the Vice Chancellor. "......write on behalf of Western Carolina University to thank you for your generous intentions for WCU's baseball program and to express our regret that we are unable to accommodate the conditions you have attached to your intended gift.........While we certainly would wish to have the quality of baseball facilities your gift would provide, we cannot sacrifice the University's integrity regarding these issues."The conditions were that a certain business man from Waynesville do the work on the field. That is the reason our clubhouse has never been build. WCU fans can't be happy with Bardo's ties to Final 4

That's a sad story I was not aware that happened.
Any chance that benefactor is still interested in making such a gift?
I'd hope the new administration would be more receptive.

Maybe Bardo will give the $280,000 he basically stole from WCU to baseball to make up for his rejection of the donation back in 1999

John Bardo was the worst thing to happen to WCU let alone WCU athletics. He alienated the local community, suffocated tradition and history, GAVE CHIP SMITH CONTRACT EXTENSIONS?!?, did nothing but fund raise to build new buildings so he could put his name on one while at the same time cutting degree programs and departments and our quality of instruction has suffered, ran this place into the ground and then walks with 300k for nothing. The man was a dirt bag with no integrity.

Thanks WCU32 and that article made me sick. I knew there was a reason i didnt like Wichita St and I had no idea he was there now. I hope Louisville tears them up.
Sad about our baseball and other athletics, i think and hope our new chancellor will try to right the ship and get athletics back to respectability.
Do you think Bardo was the reason Coach LeClair and Coach Hennon left WCU (their alma mater) for other schools?

Do you think Bardo was the reason Coach LeClair and Coach Hennon left WCU (their alma mater) for other schools? Coach LeClair left for bigger job and more money. Back then then head coach was paid around $35k and assistant something like $15-20K. All i'll say is it makes it hard when you have things in place to improve but are not allowed to it is usually not a good thing. Its happened in recent years as well just not on same scale.
