SoCon expected to add three members, but not UNC AshevilleThe Southern Conference is expected to add three schools to its membership by the end of this month, but UNC Asheville isn’t on the list. SoCon commissioner John Iamarino said Asheville was considered and discussed during a conference call with league presidents on Thursday, but the decision was made to make official visits to East Tennessee State, Mercer and Virginia Military. Those visits over the next couple of weeks are expected to be followed by invitations to join the league, invitations that could be issued at the end of May during the SoCon spring meetings at Hilton Head. blogs2.citizen-times.com/jarrett/

I guess two out of three's not bad.
Other than to make the Citadel happy, I see no good reason under the sun to bring back VMI.

Too bad we couldn't get W&M and Richmond (football only). No one would even miss Appy/GSU if those two were added.
If JMU bolts for the Sum Belt or CUSA, I think we'd have a shot at getting them.

The thought of bring back VMI makes me want to throw up. Hell, Gardner-Webb would be a better addition.

You look smarter than this Mr Commissioner No he doesn't. Any talk of adding UNC-A should be the key for WCU to be looking for a new home.

Exactly, because Western Carolina is a beacon for successful athletics, not to mention a first rate educational institution. I forgot, WCU is actually an Indian Reservation. That 1-10 football program and 14-19 basketball program must make you guys beam with pride.

Welcome to the board buffalobill. I assume you're either a VMI fan or an Appy State fan, since you chose not to identify your allegiance and was so ready to put down WCU and it's athletic programs.
First of all, WCU is in fact a first rate educational institution. Secondly, we have had numerous problems in football, and we've attempted to fix it, VMI has done nothing about their program, except dropped down to a lower rated conference. As far as basketball goes, Hunter had a down year this past season, with no seniors on the team. Guess you forgot to talk about indoor and outdoor track and field, as well as baseball. You failed to answer what I posted, that I'd prefer Gardner-Webb to VMI. Please tell me the sports that VMI finished this year ahead of VMI, maybe you can make your case that way.
Lastly, unlike you, I figured out how to quote someone, and not have my post within their quote.
