15-4, that's a real let down after the season we had.

Greenville, S.C. - Middle inning woes plagued top-seeded Western Carolina as the Catamounts fell to fifth-seeded Appalachian State, 15-4, in Friday afternoon's elimination game at the 2013 Southern Conference Baseball Championship at Fluor Field. The Mountaineers pounded out 14 hits and scored multiple runs in five innings to advance. Appalachian State (30-23) will face No. 4 seed The Citadel on Saturday at 10:00 am and needs to beat the Bulldogs twice to advance to Sunday's championship game. Western Carolina (39-20) saw its tournament run come to an end. www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/052413aad.html

I was at the game also yesterday. Bottom line is the coach lost focus when he started bringing a multitude of pitchers in and continuing to throw breaking ball after breaking ball. I found out after the game that A-Mart called the pitches for the last three times that App batted. Ony 2 runs were given up. Interesting. I hated the loss for the boys because they are played hard all year.

I report that we sucked..... That would be hard to deny. Our sucking started Thursday. We fell apart losing our lead. Pitching. If only we could have won on Thursday.

Losing the CitDogs game on Thursday the way we did seemed to take all the wind out of our sails. There was some poor umpiring going on in that game; beginning with an inconsistent strike zone, continuing with some horrible calls from 3B on checked swings and culminating with Dykota Speiss getting doubled up @1b when he had beaten the throw by a full stride. Our pitchers did not stop the bleeding when they needed to. Some of pitching changes can be second guessed. I'd have let Colton Davis face more than one batter. He's going to be an impact pitcher next season.

I really hate losing to ASU, and losing to ASU in baseball, in the tournament, just makes it that much worse.
