Crazy game. Sammons, FR LHP from Wilmington, went 5 decent innings. Not great. 5 K's but 4 BB's. 6 hits; 4 runs; 3 of them earned. Left with a huge lead.
The next 3 innings (6, 7 and 8) were pitched by 2 of our weekend starters. After 8 innings, we were up 18-4. Then for the 9th, Coach Mo brought in a SOPH infielder who did not pitch last year at all and has not pitched so far this year. He faced 5 or 6 batters and got no one out. Momentum was now going Clemson's way and they kept getting hits no matter who we brought in. It was almost impossible to get the 9th inning over.
I have no clue what Coach Mo was thinking. Was he trying to rub it in on Leggett by pitching a non-pitcher? I hope not.
I just don't understand why you pitch WEEKEND STARTERS in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings to keep the lid on and then do a "whosoever will" in the 9th inning.
