Forsyth Central's Reed Clark commits to Western Carolina

The rising senior pitcher verbally committed Wednesday to play for the Catamounts. The left-hander chose Western Carolina over Georgia Highlands, Georgia State and Richmond.

“It feels fantastic,” Clark said about making his decision. “It’s been a big dream of mine since I was a little kid. I couldn’t have done it without my friends, family and coaches.”

Clark is coming off a junior season in which he went 3-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 10 appearances. He had 42 strikeouts in 43 innings with 21 walks and was named to the all-county team.

Leviner gives WCU verbal commitment

Cody Leviner felt like it was “weight off of his shoulders.”

What Leviner was referring to was his decision to verbally commit to Western Carolina University to play baseball.

“I’m glad to get it out of the way,” Leviner said. “When you aren’t committed, it’s all you think about.”

Leviner added he was right at home when he and his family visited the Cullowhee campus.

Jake Moebius (2015) Wesleyan Christian Academy baseball.

Jake has committed to attend and play college baseball at Western Carolina University. Jake was All Conference and All-State last season.

Hendersonville senior Justin Sparks has committed to play college baseball for Western Carolina University.

Justin Sparks, Hendersonville, junior: Sparks was just what his last name says. He was the offensive spark for the Bearcats. Sparks showed his power this season with six homers. He also hit .429 and drove in 20 runs. As valuable as he was on offense, his ability behind the plate made him one of the most valuable Bearcats. Sparks was named to the WHC All-Conference team and was named the WHC Player of the Year.

Reed Clark signs with Western Carolina

It set Clark on a path that led to this past Wednesday, his 18th birthday, when he signed a national letter of intent to Western Carolina whom he verbally committed to in July.

The Bulldogs’ senior joins a surging Catamounts program that went 37-18 this past season and won their second consecutive Southern Conference regular season title.

He grew to love Western Carolina during the recruiting process for its mountainous campus in Cullowhee, N.C., and the "down to earth, great people" he met there. On his official visit two weeks ago, he hung out with Catamounts catcher Danny Bermudez, a former Central standout. He slept at the dorm of Catamounts pitcher Dylan Biumi, a former Lambert standout.

"The thing that just clicked for me was the people around there reminded me of the people around here, the people I’ve grown up around," Clark said.
