Western Carolina junior first baseman Jacob Hoyle was today named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week. Hoyle hit .471 last week for the league-leading Catamounts, pacing three players with .400+ batting averages - and seven that hit .333-or-better on the 4-0 week.
Hoyle, who collects his first weekly honor from the league office, led the hot-hitting Catamounts last week with a .471 (8-for-17) batting average with five of his eight hits going for extra bases including three doubles and two home runs. He tallied at least one hit in all four games with a trio of multi-hit games while also scoring one run and driving home at least two in each game. The Hickory, N.C., product amassed a 1.000 slugging percentage, while also drawing a pair of walks to add to his .500 on-base percentage as the Catamounts moved atop the league standings.
