Davidson's graduation is actually on Sunday. I also noticed there is other SoCon games on Saturday. Do we have to complete the series by Friday? Why not play a Thursday, Friday, & Saturday series?

Yes, Wofford did take two from Samford today (unexpected) and E-Loan (idle this weekend) got bumped down to #7 seed. Wofford took a DH from Samford and, by doing so, leaped from a probably #8 seed to a #6 seed and avoided the play-in scenario. App State took the weekend series from Furman and moved into #5 seed (and in our bracket). In our bracket, #8 Furman and #9 UNC-G will play on Tuesday for the right to meet the Catamounts on Wednesday @ 1:00 pm. The other Wednesday game (10:00 am start) in our bracket is #4 Georgia Southern vs. #5 App State. [ I'm pulling for a 20 inning affair between GSU and ASU even if it pushes our start time back to 4:00 pm or so ] In the other bracket, #7 E-Loan and #10 CitDogs will play on Tuesday for the opportunity to hook up with #2 Davidson on Wednesday. The other Wednesday game in that bracket is #3 Samford vs. #6 Wofford. (see first paragraph… Wofford just sent them out of Spartanburg with a bruised butt today) Go Cats! Come on down to Charleston and let's pull the Cats through to a Tournament Championship too!

Will be interesting to see who will be our starting pitcher on Wednesday in Charleston. Jordan Smith had a better outing vs. UNC-G this year than Jeremy Null did. But Jeremy was somewhat more effective vs. Furman than Jordan was.
I hope GSU beats App on Wednesday morning and then we take care of business vs either UNC-G or Furman. That way, we will have an opportunity to give GSU what they deserve for a couple of weekends ago and their "homer" umpire. GSU is a good team, but they are quite beatable away from Statesboro.
Go Cats!

Day 1 results -
Game #1 - UNCG / Furman
UNCG is the first team to go home, after dropping their game to Furman in 11 innings. Furman meets the Cats tomorrow in game #4 at 1 PM.
Game #2 - The Citadel / Elon
The Bulldogs send Elon home, winning the second game by a final score of 10-7. It's been a tough year for the burnt chickens, as it should be. The Citadel has now won 4 games straight, as they sweep UNCG the last series of the season, those games were played in Charleston as well. That's the problem in playing a good team on their home field for the conference tournament. The Bulldogs might be the hottest team in the tournament, and will be playing the last game of the day (as long as they win) in their home stadium. I'm glad they are in the other bracket.

Day 2 results
May 21 (Wednesday)
Game 3: #4 Georgia Southern vs. #5 Appalachian State 10 a.m. In today's game 3 of the tournament (the who cares game?), two of the teams leaving the SoCon faced each other. The hillbillies won in extra innings, 3-2 to remain in the winners bracket, while the Eagles are the first time in the losers' bracket. ASU will face the winner of the WCU/Furman game.
Game 4: #8 Furman vs. #1 Western Carolina 1 p.m. Number one seed WCU falls to one of the play in-teams, the Furman Paladins, 3-2. Once again, the Paladins shut down the powerful offensive machine that is the Catamounts, now left to play the only other team that won a series from the Catamounts, the Georgia Southern Eagles. Winner plays again, loser goes home. If the Cats lose against GSU, they can forget about an at large bid to the NCAA.
Game 5: #10 The Citadel vs. #2 Davidson 5 p.m. The Wildcats don't choke today, and pick up the win over the Citadel to remain in the winners bracket, and now become the clear favorite to win tournament championship. Out hit by the Bulldogs 12-9, the Wildcats put up 9 runs and hold on as the Bulldogs attempted a rally in the 8th & 9th innings, but could only put across 3 more runs, to lose by two, 9-7.
Game 6: #3 Samford vs. #6 Wofford 8 p.m. The Bulldogs remain in the winner's bracket with a 4-2 win over Wofford. The Terriers out hit Samford 8-5, but was able to only push across two runs in the game.
