The Cats have now been beat by the last place team in the Sun Belt, and then the last place team in the SoCon, in consecutive games.
Bet no one else in the SoCon can pull off that little trick.

Hate to say it but stick a fork in the cats, they are done. There will not be a three-peat for the regular season and they will get to play only two games in the in the SOCON tournament and be done. I have followed the team this year and there have been some bright spots but then again there has been a lot of bad play. Let's face it. The team does not have the talent like the last two years except for a couple of players. Pitching is way down. Is that due to recruiting or coaching? You decide. All I will say about the coaching is you can't be the head coach and pitching at the same time. It does not work, never has, and eventually catches up with you.

..... There will not be a three-peat for the regular season..... Based on the way they are playing, you are probably right. However, they are only 3.5 games out of 1st place, with 8 games remaining. To win the regular season, the Cats would need to win out, and about 4 other teams would need to completely collapse. I don't think either will happen.

The Cats drop game #3 to ETSU, thus losing the three game series, 2-1 to the team that was in last place when the series started.
The Cats gave up 8 runs in their final three innings at bat, to beat Western by a final score of 10-7. I'm speechless with Western's performance in this series.

Based on the season thus far, it looks like this is turning out to be the worst coaching & recruiting we have seen from Bobby since he was hired. His performance in the SoCon Tourney has been terrible since his arrival at Western. With cutbacks in the baseball scholarships & lack of funds for baseball field improvements, I think he would jump at the opportunity to leave WCU. Most of the money is being directed to Football & Basketball. Baseball is basically a stepchild to these programs.

.....With cutbacks in the baseball scholarships & lack of funds for baseball field improvements.... This is the first I've seen about any scholarship cutbacks at WCU. Please tell me more. As for field improvements, I don't see funds on the horizon for any sport's facilities improvements.

My understanding, cut backs were made during the payouts to the coaches that were fired in the recent past. WCU has never been allowed to give the 11 1/2 scholarships permitted by the NCA.

Most of the money is being directed to Football & Basketball. Baseball is basically a stepchild to these programs. It has been that way for the 20 years I've been involved with program and was even worse before that. The program has never been fully funded even when you had the out of state waiver (I cant remember the exact # of scholarships we currently have but i want to say its something around 6-7). When that was eliminated a few years ago it made the funding even worse. They can hardly afford to sign out of state kids and are very limited in where they can travel both recruiting and playing because there is not enough money. It's been that way during winning and losing so can't say that's to fault but it's huge part of it. And that definitely is not reason we blew a 5-0 lead in a VERY IMPORTANT game vs a very bad team. Instead of tied for 3rd now in 6th. Look on bright side it's no where near as bad as what is going on at the Citadel.
