The most ridiculous stat I've been keeping up with all year is the unbelievable # of wild pitches. I've never seen or heard of anything as bad as what the pitching staff did this year. As of 2011 Air Force had the national record of 97 wild pitches in 2004. Right now we have 101 which is probably a national record you obviously don't want. Just imagine if actually played a full schedule and not just 49 games. You'd think Cullowhee was in Maine and not NC in the middle of 200 D1 schools within 10 miles

Just like I said before & during the season, the Cats had a very young pitching staff & could not compete @ the D1 level. No junior or senior starting pitchers really hurt this team. Also, Bobby' performance as a coach this season is questionable.

Not just a large number of HBP's, but we were, as one would expect, first in the number of walks at 305, with Furman at a distant second with 260. Our pitchers can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn as the old saying goes. Is this the result of coaching as well, too cute in trying to hit the strike zone???

Folks, everyone is missing the point. We don't have a pitching coach period. The head coach is proving that he is not a pitching coach. Otherwise, stats would be better and less arms hurt. Too many curveballs. Also, you don't change a kid's mechanics when there was nothing to be fixed, so you get what we have here today. I remember when a couple of the current pitchers came in as freshman a couple of years ago and he decided to change their arm slot. You just don't do it. It is one thing to go from dead over the top to maybe 3/4 arm slot but to go from over the top to almost sidearm is asinine. It is not just at Western that we have the problem, it is rampant through out baseball. You have guys calling themselves pitching coaches but have no idea how to teach someone how to pitch. Yes, I said teach, not coach. Teaching involves more than showing kids how to throw different types of pitches, it involves teaching what to do in situations, moving the ball around, changing speeds, not relying on solely the fastball and curveball. Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine made a living out of and are now in the hall of fame. Those head coaches that also call themselves the pitching coach have some serious ego issues. I hope the Cats can make a respectable showing at the tournament because there are some good kids on that team.
