The #7 seed Catamounts will play #2 seed Samford in the opening game on Wednesday, at 9 am.
While the Cats finished conference play tied for 6th place with Furman, the Paladins held the tie breaker due to their series win over Western.
If the Cats win on Wednesday, they will play the winner of the Furman/Wofford game at 5 pm on Thursday. If they lose, they will play the loser of the Furman/Wofford game at 9 am on Thursday.

During the regular season, Samford won the three game conference series against Western Carolina, 2 games to one, in Birmingham.
In game one, the Bulldogs won 13-4, in game 2 - the Cats rebounded with a 7-4 win, only to drop the final game to Samford in a slugfest, 14-16.
This game could go either way, on a neutral site. The Cats are 2-1 in neutral site games, while the Bulldogs are 0-2.

Just when you think the Cats are going to prove you wrong, and have a good game. They screw it up in the 9th, never fails.

Samford with a walkoff win in the bottom of the 10th, 8-7. The Cats are now in the elimination bracket. Many predicted 2 and gone, guess we'll see on Thursday. I do know this team continues to find ways to lose games that should be in the bag.

There is no excuse to blow a 6-0 lead. Coach could have taken control of the game late by matching right handed pitching against their right handed hitters. Lefty pitching to a right handed hitter, not good unless you are Randy Johnson. I would have thought when Samford came up with several right handed hitters in a row he would have made the change. Nothing against Nail and Durand but he should have changed to a right hander sooner than wait until the 10th with runners at 2nd and 3rd. Tough situation for Colton to come into. Again, Coach proves he cannot make the decisions to win the big game and this would have been a huge boost to the team. Don't have much hope for the losers bracket. Enjoy Charleston, great place to visit and the food is pretty good.

We jumped on Samford's best pitcher for 6 in the top of the 1st. Ledford has buffaloed us for the past 2 years but we hit him Wednesday morning like he was throwing batting practice.
And then our pitching staff began to work on losing the game. In the bottom of the 2nd Inning, we walked the bases loaded with no one out. Then a single scored one and a WP let the second run come in. Score was 6-2.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, we walked 2 and hit one with no one out. Then another walk brought in a run and a single brought in 2 more. Score was 6-5. At that point, Samford had 5 runs on 2 hits through 6 innings. Weird looking line score.
We picked up another run in the top of the 8th to take a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the 9th. Along the way, we had left runners on 3rd base in the 6th and 9th innings. So we could have had more than a 2 run lead.
The reason Mo used lefties almost exclusively is the fact that Samford has not hit left-handed pitchers well all year. More than half their 24 losses came against lefties (One of the Samford parents told me that after the game). THEY DID NOT HIT OUR LEFTIES EITHER. They only got 5 hits off our lefies. But 8 runs... because of walks..
11 walks and 3 hit batters. Against the best HR hitting team in the country. And we were one pitch away from winning the game anyway. Unreal!
I think we need to scour the nation for JUCO pitchers during the off-season. And work on developing the pitchers we have so they won't walk as many as they strike out. That was the story all year long.
