Rumor has it that Coach Beck is leaving Western and headed to Georgia Southern as an Assistant. Anyone know about that? If true, sad day for catamount baseball. Wish Alan well.

Sounds like it is time to give the head coach his pink slip. Something is not right with WCU's Baseball Program.

His last day is Friday. Looks as if we'll need a new cheerleading coach too.
Yep, pretty sad indeed.

Sounds like it is time to give the head coach his pink slip. Something is not right with WCU's Baseball Program. Do you have inside information? Is something just not right for some reason? Coach Beck is taking a step up in his career. If he wants to come back and be the head coach at Western or any good baseball school, it is best to get assistant coaching from another program with a good reputation, or take a job as head coach at a smaller school (either of which I think he is capable of and deserves). If we have another year like we did this year, maybe it's time to explore other options. But Coach Mo has accomplished a lot with a thin budget and a very competitive atmosphere in college baseball in general (different and tougher than it was 10 years ago). Until then, I think we need to support this team and it's staff. Just my opinion.

It has been confirmed that Beck is headed to Georgia Southern. Only Coach listed now on WCU website is Coach Mo.
Here is how I would rate Coach Mo:
Recruiting Grade A (Although a lot of credit could be given to Coach Beck) Game Management C (Boys pulled a lot of games out on their own) SOCON Tournament Mgt. D- (Being generous here, should have won the tournament in 2013) Doing the most with the least budget A+ ( Gets a lot of credit here because he did work hard at getting things cleaned up around the field) Overall Grade C (Unless you get the support like other schools, never will do any better than they did in 2013 and 2014) Prediction: Mo will be gone sooner than you think. Give no more than two years, maybe less.

I was curious to see what other "similar" schools paid the head coach and two assistants
App St $215,000.00 Georgia Southern $193,999.92 UNCG $185,000.00 WCU $166,002.00
Im not sure if UNCG has the full 11.7 scholarships but do know App and GSU do while WCU is only around 50%.

And remember, UNCG isn't funding football. I would expect App and GSU to pay more because of their conference affiliation. They haven't been that far above WCU but for a very short while.

I sure hope that Mo has a couple of Asst. Coaches identified and ready to announce. Students will be on campus in mid-August.
It will be interesting to see if he hires a Pitching Coach. No better opportunity than right now. Failure to do so will be a monumental mistake, IMHO.

They haven't been that far above WCU but for a very short while. yes they did get a little bump in pay when moved to Sun Belt and Jarrett got more to pay when he was hired. That reminds me that I looked up Gaski pay and couldn't believe how low it was especially how long he had been coach there actually starting the program. I don't remember exactly but want to say it was only in $60s. Anyway it doesn't matter, bottom line is WCU has always paid its assistants low and still is only around 50% funded.
