Less than two years ago, McDowell County native Greg Holland was widely regarded as one of Major League Baseball’s top closers.
Now, he’s looking for a team.
That’s the way life in pro baseball goes for a pitcher trying to come back from a serious arm injury, but Holland is almost ready to show teams he’s ready to throw again at the highest level.
The Dysartsville native and Western Carolina University graduate, speaking at his alma mater’s golf tournament in Marion last week, said he starts testing his arm out for real in the next week or so.
Holland earned a World Series ring last season but wasn’t on the active roster for the Kansas City Royals at the time. Holland originally suffered some elbow damage in late 2014, but it didn’t slow him down from posting four saves that October, when he yielded just one earned run.
