Friday 17-February - we play St. John's (NY) at the Pelicans home field in Myrtle Beach.
Saturday 18-February - we play Coastal at their campus field at Conway. They are having their big recognition of the CWS Championship in conjunction with this game. (Before or After; I don't know.) But James has given us a clue that it's going to be a sold-out thing and tickets go on sale Feb. 9 on the Coastal Carolina website.
Sunday 19-February - we play North Carolina A & T at the Pelicans home field. If this game were a few years earlier, we would have been facing an old Catamount as the A&T Head Coach. Keith Shumate (Catamount baseballer 1986-88) was the HC at A&T for about 15 years until 2011. After that was HC at Louisburg JC for 3-4 years but now has given that up. I doubt Keith has given up baseball but have no word on what he's doing now.
(James, are you going to be staying up in Conway or are you going to show up at some of the games in MB?)

I'm planning on attending all the games. Remember, I live about 10 minutes from CCU off of 501 on Myrtle Beach National Golf Course. I hope to see you & the GREAT 75 from Atlanta at the games. I hope the Baseball Team has an outstanding season & not be a disappointed like our other teams. I just read that our Softball Team is preseason ranked last in the SoCon.

Great time at the Baseball Celebration Banquet last night. The players are pumped !!! Ready for the 17th to get here.
A couple of the players I know well hinted at some lineup surprises that may be coming based on who is showing out in pre-season.
Some Freshmen may be platooning behind the plate. A JUCO probably breaking the infield starting lineup (where we had all 4 starters returning from last year).
Heard several say that our hitting is going to be stronger than last year.
The big question remains... how much help are we going to get from the "new" pitchers?

I went to the Coastal Carolina website this morning at 9:00 to get tickets for Saturday's game.
Sections 101, 102 and 103 are on the 1B line behind the visitors dugout. Sections 101 and 102 were NOT AVAILABLE. I was able to get two tickets in Section 103 but there was not a huge selection.
They give you the option of printing your tickets at home, like most sports venues do.

I also have tickets for the Friday & Sunday Games.

The lack of scholarships really hurts the Catamounts when it comes to recruiting good Division 1 Pitchers & developing pitching depth. I commend the Baseball Coaches at Western for the remarkable job they have done to make the Catamount Baseball Team the most successful Division 1 Program at WCU. Being a former Cat Pitcher, everyone must understand that I am tremendously biased when it comes to the Cat's Baseball Program.

My tickets are 103, Row H, Seats 1 and 2.
A friend will be coming with me. He and his wife and me and my wife are coming down for the weekend. Guess what the wives will be doing? Hint... it involves the Tanger Outlets...
I am not going to buy any advance tickets for the Friday and Sunday games. Should be plenty of seats available for walk-ins.

James, I thought I knew who you are, but your comment about being a former pitcher has thrown me a curve (pun intended). Who was the HC when you were playing?

Who was the HC when you were playing? My Coach was a former Major League Baseball Pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His name was Ron Blackburn. He was my coach all 4 years that I played for the Cats. Sorry that I didn't make the Baseball Celebration. I had a conflict that I could not change.

Sorry that I didn't make the Baseball Celebration. I had a conflict that I could not change. I don't believe Blackburn was the WCU coach but 4 or 5 years. He took over for Jim Gudger. Darned if you aren't about as old as I am. You would have played with Cecil Caldwell, Roddy Edwards, Sonny Hollifield and Glenn Ivie. They were classmates of mine. I have run into Glenn a couple of times in the past 8-10 years. Maybe seen Cecil once in the past 50 years. Nada on Roddy and Sonny. So you live in the Conway-MB area? Look forward to meeting you on Friday in MB. I'll be sitting in the vicinity of the Catamount dugout... wherever that turns out to be. I'm in my 70's and my friend who'll be with me is in his 80's. We should not be hard to spot. Go Cats!
