My observation from Saturday... Home plate ump - very tight strike zone...Our pitching fell behind in the count ... Had to groove the ball... And they sat on the fastball... Could not get them to chase anything... I a sure they read the scouting report as there were very few first pitch swings... Thought we left the starter in too long... They got really lucky with a few seeing eye at bats... A bunt that was just fast enough to slide past the pitcher but too slow for the second baseman to make a play... A high bouncing ball over the third baseman's head... Then they started teeing off on him... No one in the bullpen until it way too late... Thought we hit pretty good... Their starter has a nice change of speeds between his fastball ball and breaking pitches ... ...and man was it it WINDY! Skip Looks like we may have two good starting pitchers in Sammons & Nail. Also, looks like Nobles is going to be a good late inning reliever. However, the number 3 starter is a big question mark & relieving past Nobles is a big question mark. As of now, the best teams in the SoCon are Mercer & Samford. Both teams have had some big wins. Western will have trouble beating these teams if WCU does not fix their pitching situation. The big test will be the UNCG game and how our pitching staff performs.

I still do not understand why Spencer Holcomb is not the starting catcher. He is definitely the best hitter. Sure hope politics are not the reason he is being kept out of the starting lineup.
