Bradley Strong singled and scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Fort Myers Miracle on June 15. It turned out to be his final game as a professional baseball player.
“I didn’t think about that until now,” Strong said. “I don’t really dwell on one at-bat or anything like that, but I guess that is a neat way to go out.”
Strong, who was placed on the disabled list soon after that game despite being healthy, made the decision earlier this week to end his playing career.
“They decided to put me on the disabled list to make room for some other players so anytime that happens as a player you kind of know what your future is with that team,” Strong said. “I kind of just took matters into my own hands. I was kind of burned out anyway so it was a good time to kind of end it. That time that I was on the disabled list you still have to go to all the games and you are in the dugout. That time definitely gave me plenty of time to reflect and decide if I was making the right decision.
