Hope the weather holds out - rain in the AM, but cloudy and cool in the afternoon. Go Cats!

Have not been able to make any games yet due to total knee replacement (only one, thank goodness). Lack of video is a real bummer for me right now. I would have attended 4 or 5 games by now in a normal year.
But I reviewed the cumulative stats this morning and came to some conclusions.
(1) Gotta start hitting. Our overall team BA is .236. Worst Team BA I can ever remember. Last year our team BA was .304. Caleb Robinson is sub-.200. One of our best hitters for 3 years and, knowing Caleb, he is pressing too hard. I believe he will relax and get in his hitting groove before too long. He has never played anywhere but INF before (including HS) and he has been moved to LF. That may be a factor in that he is having to concentrate on learning a new position defensively. Senior INF Cameron Blaquiere is also sub-.200. But I have all confidence the hitting will start coming around.
(2) Pitching is quite below par. A front-line pitcher needs to have a K:BB ratio of at least 2:1. Obviously, 3:1 or 4:1 is much better. Last year Bryan Sammons was 2.5:1 and B.J. Nobles was over 4:1.
This year, so far, we only have 2 people who are even approaching 2:1. FR Zach Franklin and JUCO Taylor Purus are almost there. Personally, I don't pay nearly as much attention to ERA for college pitchers than I do for K:BB ratio.
In college ball, if you walk them, they will score. Almost guaranteed! Gotta make the other team beat you with their bats moving.. not with their bats still.
Too many BB's and HBP has been a buggaboo for us for several years. That's why I fussed about Coach Mo being the Pitching Coach. He finally relinquished that role last year.
(3) Rebuilding year. Trying to figure out where the pieces fit. More new names on this year's roster than I ever remember.
Whatever dividends we get from the development that is going on right now will hopefully begin to be paid during SoCon play. But they should be abundant dividend next season. I have no dreams of a top 3 SoCon finish this year. But do no expect any 8-9 stuff either.
Maybe I will be recovered to catch some games in late April or May. Hopefully some of the other SoCon schools have not abandoned the SoCon Digital Network like we have. I want to see some games...
Go Cats !

Our schedule does not show it, but the Wofford website shows that our series with them in Spartanburg 29-31 March will be televised by the SoCon Digital Network.
According to the Goon website, our Wed. April 18 game in Boone is supposed to be broadcast on "AppVision". Have no idea what that is but would not surprise me to find out it is Pay-per-View. (^_^)

SCHEDULE UPDATE:
Morning rain showers and lingering rain have prompted WCU game officials to push the start of Tuesday's nonconference doubleheader vs. Marshall to 2:30 pm at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
The teams are scheduled to play two, seven-inning games in Cullowhee.
