Someone asked about Moranda vs Leggett and Raleigh. Records Todd Raleigh 2000-2007 (8 seasons): 257-209 (132-101) or an avg of 32-26 (16.5-12.625) Jack Leggett 1983-1991 (9 seasons): 302-229 (103-40) or an avg of 33.6-25.4 (11.4-4.4) Bobby Moranda 2008-Present (11 seasons): 315-284 (162-122) or an avg of 28.6-25.8 (14.7-11.1) Winning Percentages Todd Raleigh 55.2% overall, 56.7% SoCon Jack Leggett 56.9% overall, 72% SoCon Bobby Moranda 52.6% overall, 57.0% SoCon Those numbers are very misleading though. 3 totally different era's of SoCon baseball. When Leggett was coach the only team really to compete with WCU till Georgia Southern joined the league was The Citadel. Rest of league was not very good. During Raleigh's tenure the league started to turn into one of the top Mid-Major conferences in the country with WCU, Georgia Southern, CofC, and Elon. Citadel was still a power back then also. Moranda entered the league when it was still one of the top Mid Major leagues in country and joining the league and the previous mentioned teams was Samford. Since GSU, CofC, and Elon left the league has fallen off drastically. If the league is weak now, why have the Catamounts won only 3 games.

I disagree that the conference has fallen off drastically. Rather, I think it is stronger in baseball. Look at the success that SoCon teams have versus larger D-1 Schools. I haven't checked the exact numbers, but will. We even played Louisville tough for 2 games at their place. I believe that a number of the member schools fared well against major opponents this year.

You must not have been around in the 90s and early 2000s. The league is awful

I read something from one of the top programs in the NCAA yesterday. Habits players create in High School construct a foundation for their college careers as athletes and students. And then the environment at the college level solidifies their future weather they become MLB participants or Doctors, Lawyers, Businessmen, whatever. It begins with expectation and standards of the Athletic Program. Boy is Coach Mo failing.

Moranda does have an annual contract. Can the people that think he should get to come back give me an explanation why?
His last 4 seasons are
2015- 21-30 2016- 31-31 2017- 28-28 2018- Worst season in WCU baseball history
What trend do you see that justify's bringing him back? His recruiting has gone to crap since Beck left and there doesn't appear to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Also for whoever said the league was different when Leggett was coaching because he only had to compete against one team, be careful what you say.
I guess that means Danny Williamson's career has an asterisk. WCU and App were the only schools to field full track and field teams on the men's side for many many years. WCU and App were the only teams that could possibly win the championship. Women's track wasn't much different, I think there were 3 teams that could possibly win the championship.

That would be me and it’s a true statement and did say until Georgia Southern joined in early 90s but has absolutely zero to do with track n field

just heard from a darn good source that Coach Moranda decided not to offer former Catamount Player Phillip Grundy’s son a spot on the 2019 Catamounts Baseball team. Said team was set for next year. I can’t believe that’s possible. If I’d have coached a squad with 9 wins I’d be begging for a anything I could get attached to the glory days of Catamount Baseball. Grundy was before my time but I spoke to 3 people at restaurant tonight that says it is true. Looked his son up on Maxpreps. Great stats and plays outfield and is a Right handed pitcher which by all accounts we desperately need both. Man which direction is this program going. I do not want to see it fall any further but if this is his recruiters or if it’s his decision someone needs to find out.
