I think The Citadel is declining. I could be wrong, but we beat them at their place last year. I know we lost allot of good players but Coach has recruited well over the past 3 or 4 season, so we should have some talent to fill the holes. The lack of game experience is the most worrisome thing, I think. It could be another 3-8 season if things don't gel quickly. Newberry will not be a pushover although they are DII especially since it is the first game of the season and with lack of game experience. They will come to Cullowhee looking for a win so we best not overlook them. In years past they have given Furman fits. On another note, Furman worries me because they will not let us get into a rhythm on offense. They faked over 40 injuries on defense last year when we played them in Cullowhee just to delay our no huddle offense and so they could sub in players. If they do that again, we cannot beat them, because we don't do well if we can't get into a rhythm. I am not surprised that the referees did not penalize them, because they are Socon officials, but there has to be a rule against that. I think it shows allot about the lack of character of their coach for stooping to that level to have your players fake injuries. What does that teach the young men at Furman about life? If you can't win, fake it and lie to get ahead is what they are learning. So sad that their athletes are associated with such a low life program. I don't know their coach but that should tell us all allot about how sorry of a person he is. Something that should be considered is that when a player gets injured in any NCAA sport, he or she should not be able to rejoin the game for a total of one quarter of the game. In baseball it could be 2 innings, basketball 10 minutes, and in football the equivalent of 15 minutes of playing time so that if you get hurt at the end of the game, you cannot play again until 15 minutes into the next game or 1 quarter. That would stop low life coaches like Furman has from pulling this play ground BS just to win a football game. Without the fake injuries last year, we would have handily beaten Furman. We could not get into a rhythm. GO CATS!!!

Thanx for the locker room material It looks like Fubear did his job in going from board to board stirring up the pot. What was posted about the coach was one fan's opinion, I doubt that many WCU fans agree with the.........type statements. But, was there an awful lot of Furman injuries that slowed Western's no-huddle offense, that's beyond doubt, just review the game film. Would the outcome have been different without all those injuries, it's doubtful.

I want to disagree with that. Our offense is VERY effective when we can run the hurry up. We get first downs and move down the field at a fast pace. Furman truly broke our rhythm time and time again during that game. By the second half, I was with a lot of those fans who were booing the "injured" players. I do think we could have had a good shot of winning that game if we could have kept our offense moving quickly and their defense on the field.
The stats on that game were much closer than the score (28-7). FU had 420 yards to our 350, but we had 23 first downs to their 17, 80 plays to their 60, and we each had almost exactly 30 minutes of possession.

I have read that the NCAA is strongly considering making a player sit for the quarter if he has to come out of the game because many of the no huddle teams are complaining. I guess a coach with no scruples could put in a second or third stringer to fake an injury. I still say what is a coach teaching an 18-22 year old. If you can't win by lining up and playing? Cheat? That what it is plain and simple. It is not a strategy because it is against the rules to fake an injury. Furman will do it again this year because they know they cannot beat us any other way. I would never let a child of mine play for a coach with no scruples.
GO CATS!!!

I'm not agreeing with your point that any coach we played had players to fake injuries. However, how can you say a coach cheats or has no scruples unless rules are broken? In the Furman game, had any rules against injuries been broken, the refs would have applied the appropriate penalties. I don't like the final outcome of the game, but I can't call their coach names even IF he utilized a tactic that is completely legal. We just need a better defense, and all else will be well..... We let then score 28 points, that's why we lost......

It is against the rules to fake an injury and a Furman player would lay down on the field in every 1st down series. It was over 30 times in one game. There is no way that a ref can prove that a player is faking an injury, but it is very unlikely that many players were hurt on the Furman side during that game. So rules were obviously broken but nothing can be proved because the ref has to stop the game to allow for the players faking the injuries to be dealt with.

GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No emotional response. The Furman coach purposely cheated. It is impossible for that many players to go down during a game, only to come back in the next play after sitting out one play. When is the last time you have seen that many players injured in a football game. Use your brain and think. GO CATS!!!
