Former two-year starter Cameron Blaquiere (pictured above) has joined head coach Bobby Moranda’s coaching staff for the 2018-19 year as the program’s volunteer assistant coach. Blaquiere joins assistant coaches David Garcia (pronounced GARSH-uh) and another of Moranda’s former players in Taylor Sandefur (2009-14) who joined the staff in mid-summer and will work primarily with the Catamount pitching staff.
Blaquiere takes over a position held by a former teammate Bryson Bowman last season.
The 2018 recipient of the “Leggett No. 7 Legacy,” Blaquiere played in 102 games over the past two years for the Catamounts with 95 starts in the infield. He was a .268 collective hitter, finishing with 11 home runs, 19 doubles, and a pair of triples. He finished with 57 career RBI for the Purple & Gold while scoring 65 runs. He capped his career by earning Southern Conference All-tournament team plaudits in WCU’s run deep into the postseason tournament, collecting nine total hits including three multi-hit games. In the single-elimination game against The Citadel, the Jacksonville, Fla., native homered twice to jumpstart the Catamounts.
In the field, Blaquiere was a part of turning 32 double-plays over his two seasons between playing both third base and shortstop.
