I played 84-87 so 34 years You've certainly got the experience to answer this question then. What is Coach Speir going to do next season that he did not do this season, to go from the cellar to the conference championship in consecutive years? Thanks for your time at Western. He’s going to have more experience and less youth and not have games where we travel with a starter and 1 backup at a position due to injuries.

I'd like to hear from goat if you don't mind. Oh you’re still upset from earlier....got it.....didn’t know you were able to pick and choose who responds to a thread here. You know Mt Plesant is a pretty small town. I know a fair amount of people there and I do a ton of business in Cabarrus county and am up there many times a week.. If you’d like to hash out some differences face to face instead of keyboard pounding I’d be happy to meet you to discuss what I know and I’d be glad to share anything you would like to share with higher ups at the school. I’d even buy you lunch as a fellow catamount! Go Cats! Would you prefer What-A-Burger, Hardee’s, 73 and main (for dinner after 4pm), bobs in midland, what-a-burger downtown concord, union st bistro, or there’s numerous places in locust you could choose from. Locust is very convenient since I grew up right outside locust and my family still lives there. Name a place and I’d be more than happy to meet you and talk. I’m sure we both want The same things for WCU. I’d be happy to exchange info with you through the admin of this board.

Yessir - I knew this year would be tough, simply due to the graduating talent from last year. The youngsters are incredibly talented and made typical "rookie mistakes" (missed tackles, blown assignments and overall having to adjust to the speed / complexity of the college game). Part of the transition and becoming successful in college is learning that behavior determines results. You don't win on Saturday - you win by what you do in the off-season and by what you do during the week. The talent that made them great in high school is no longer a competitive edge! The reason I said we would win the conference this year is due to a mentality. Every time I speak to the players, I remind them of their 2 obligations to the University (1) Graduate (2) Win a Conference Championship. I tell them that this is not a goal or an expectation - rather, it is an obligation! I remind them that although I had my jersey retired and I only went to school for 3 1/2 years (to get ready for the draft so I did not graduate).... I Failed WCU! And it still gnaws at me every single day! As I speak to them, I am beginning to see the attitude change and the kids are starting to "get it!" I sure wish someone had told me this message (with enthusiasm) when I was 17! You know, there are a lot of reasons why we have underwhelmed throughout our history, and it is easy to be a critic and point out our problems. I choose to catch people doing things right and focus on solutions. Hell, when you only focus on problems, then typically you only find more problems! I know how hard it is to be a college football player, and I promise not a single player wanted to drop a pass, miss a tackle or cause a sack. I often hear that we weren't ready to play and I find that laughable. It is so easy to sit in the stands and point out what's wrong, and cowardly call out 19-20 year old kids. I stand firm in my belief about the 2019 team. I think this will be a great off-season work out and I think the mentality will change. IIt's time to stop saying "one day we will win a SoCon Championship" and make today the day that we prepare to do it! Just my thoughts, but as many on will comment "what the hell does he know?"

We may have attended the same university, but based on your posts, we share little in common. I think I'll pass on any personal contact with you unless we happen to bump into each other at an athletic event. Nothing personal, you just don't seem like the type I'd prefer to hang with, even for a meal. I don't pick who responds to who on this board, however, when I ask a specific person a specific question, I'm interested in what they have to say not what someone else has to say, I guess I'm just funny about stuff like that. If I ask an open-ended question in the future, please feel free to put in your two cents. The reason I asked goat a question, #1) he played at WCU #2) he has been a fan for over 30 years #3) if 07 on your name means you graduated in 07, you don't have the experience I was looking for. But, enjoy your time in Cabarrus County when you are there.

You have no idea how much myself and every other Catamount fan hopes you are right. Thanks for taking the time to give us your thoughts, they improve my thoughts about next season, and I just hope the current players are buying into your philosophy.

Your response was kinda rude Westernfan. All 07 was trying to do was work out whatever issue you had with him. I know who 07 is and trust me he might have graduated in 07 but what he says he has facts that go with what he says. He is not just making things up because he feels that way. Oh you’re still upset from earlier....got it.....didn’t know you were able to pick and choose who responds to a thread here. You know Mt Plesant is a pretty small town. Catamountfanatic07, I found out last week that some WCU fans/readers of this forum really don't like it when you offer to talk to them or meet up with them.

Catamountfanatic07, I found out last week that some WCU fans/readers of this forum really don't like it when you offer to talk to them or meet up with them. I don't appreciate you lumping me in with the "anonymous posters" that were giving you hell last week. That may not have been yourintent, but it is what you did with your statement. I have NEVER said a bad thing on this board about you, hell I don't even know you, except for the fact you are the father of the punter (good kid, you should be proud). I've been a posting member of the board almost since it was created, and the board moderator knows who I am, as do many other posters. So, let's be a little more careful of the box we draw folks into.
