Quoting someone from yesterday - is this "the beginning of another crappy baseball season" ?? 42 runs in 3 games. My guess is we will lead the nation in runs scored on Monday. I am a little concerned that we allowed 19 runs. But it appears we will have a much better team than last year - if this weekend is an indicator.

The hitting was good & in most cases if the Cats got on base, they would score. However, we have to keep in mind that this opponent would not be a top tier team in the SoCon. I know this is not Football, but I sure would like you to post your thoughts about Speir’s Contract Extension in the Football Section of this Board.

Congratulations to the BatCats on a sweep, although it was not against a top flight team.
I just reviewed the Stats for the first three games and have some thoughts... for what they are worth.
Luke Robinson showed some real POP in his bat with 3 HR's in the three games. A welcome development! He only had two Dingers all year last year. I expected him to be a long-ball threat when he first arrived in Cullowhee. As old Dizzy Dean used to say, "He can go bear hunting with a switch."
Oakland was 8 for 8 in stolen bases for the series. We can't have a season filled with that! Bases are stolen off the pitchers. (BTW, we were produced 6 stolen bases in 9 attempts.)
Our pitchers had 25 K's and 17 BB's. Add 6 HBP's and you have a 1:1 ratio of K's to Free Passes. 2:1 ratio is the minimum that is satisfactory, in my opinion.
Averaging 14 runs per game is very good, but we probably won't continue that pace very long. We certainly can't continue to give up 6 runs per game.
St. John's will be a strong test this coming weekend. They have become a regular in the NCAA Regionals and they beat us like a drum twice two years ago... once at Myrtle Beach and once in the Keith Leclair Classic in Greenville. Hope the weather is favorable and we have good playing conditions next weekend.

St. Johns got swept in their first series this weekend against #3 UCLA. Friday 3-2 Saturday - 9-0, and today 11-1. ETSU swept this weekend against Quinipiac, but we are the only two SoCon teams undefeated so far.
