FLCAT - not sure what I said that would make you think I was disagreeing. I said the administration has shown they don’t care and are putting it on the backs of the Catamount Club, and I am not sure how much higher the club will be able to go in fundraising. Based on comments here, it would seem half the people on this board are ready to quit giving in protest. Even then I am not sure what the university's leadership would do (probably not a whole lot).

I was not disagreeing with you. You are spot on. My only point is that nobody cares so why should I care and there is no use to keep throwing good money after bad. I was just agreeing.

Sadly College sports is a money loser unless you have a philanthropic commitment from alum and other donors. Furman, Citadel, Sanford, Mercer etc have this. WCU doesn’t when it comes to sports outside of football. And the notion Football makes money is wrong, it spends a ton of money too trying to keep up with the joneses. They have to spend a ton of money hoping for a football payday that never happens....why I don’t blame them for thinking of cutting it, especially if the state is willing to allocate the same athletic budget...There isn’t money to be had until there is a commitment outside the school, hopefully that happens one day.
The women’s sports eat a lot of the scholarships and funds, disappointing that many men’s sports can’t be fielded anymore. And most of the students are into playing video games and going to frat parties, the interest in attending sports (even football) is low....
All the facilities are subpar, can’t think of one that meets the standard of other schools. Maybe Basketball and soccer? And the athletic promotion could improve

And the athletic promotion could improve There are other ways that the university can employ to generate more cash. App State has done it. They did not upgrade their facilities with funds from alumni. They floated bonds to the tune of about 50 million dollars over the past 10 years. So I know you think you are correct, but the school is failing the alumni by not using every vehicle possible to get the needed funds. Bottom line, the administration would rather demolish dorms that are 30 years old and build parking decks with their money instead of putting the money into facilities. The problem is NOT the alumni. We continue to step up and give and the Catamount Club has continued to give and the administration and BOT have continued to cut funding to athletics so even when we give, Western takes away their part and keeps the giving stagnant. Any thing else is a lie that is propagated by the folks in charge. So please do not believe the lies.
