I've had the opportunity to meet and talk with Coach Hill on two occasions over the past few weeks. If he can lead his team in the same manner that he presents himself, this is a winner. Arguably one of the nicest people I've met in a very long time, and he has immersed himself into the local community. He fully understands that he's got an uphill climb for a few years, but seems more than capable of overcoming that challenge. Feedback from those in the know say he is a strong hire, much like Prosser. It's early, but I like the appearance of where the basketball programs are headed.

"Not sure of their relationship, as Dr. Brown was named on May 23, 2016 at Valdosta, and Coach Hill was named at Southern Miss on May 26, 2016. Maybe Dr. Brown knew the AD at Valdosta, but doubtful she knew Coach Hill. Previous University leadership, I am guessing, would have made hiring a "white male" almost impossible. Makes more sense to me that Dr. Brown ended that way of thinking. But, as always, just conjecture." Shocked beyond measure that WCU hired ANY male, let alone a white one. The desire to hire a female is strong across all NCAA sports and schools - but WCU has long been institutionally hide-bound (in WBB) in this regard, and that HAS played a role in the lack of success over the last decade. When you only seek the best FEMALE coach, instead of simply the BEST coach, it eventually catches up to you. I'm not suggesting that the best candidate was always a male, but when you effectively eliminate 60% of the candidates before you've even begun, it's statistically difficult to find a great coach. Does anyone know whether Coach Hill was an original applicant? It would make sense if he had been the strongest of the original pool, but the school, loathe (as usual) to hire a male, went with the best female applicant, only to come back to him when things fell apart. If I were a betting man, I'd say they literally looked at half a dozen (or more) females, decided they just couldn't hire any of them for one reason or another, and finally went to Coach Hill - whom is a proven winner in arguably the toughest D-II conference in the land. If you think about it, it really IS quite extraordinary that they hired a male. I'd bet there was a LOT of hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth over this decision at the highest levels of the institution. CAN we hire a male? What will the optics be? Have we turned over EVERY stone to find the best female applicant possible? If you don't think that was a huge part of the deliberative process, well... It's how things work in college athletics. Institutions are terrified of catching a Title IX case - but ironically they are all unwittingly violating Title VII by excluding male applicants (difficult to prove, though). It's still much better than Division II and especially Division III, which is FULL of 24 year-old head coaches with nothing more than a graduate assistant-ship on their resume.

As they say, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once and awhile, I don't know how he did it, but Randy has made two good hires in the men's and women's coaches, bud don't forget his past record in hiring coaches for the women's team.

Really we do not know how good they are. Prosser has coached one year and seems to have brought in a good recruiting class, but I don't think we will know if he is a good hire or not until 3 years from now. I expect that we will have a losing record for the next 2 years in mens basketball. If he wins in year 4, we should be happy because there was not that much talent left in the program. Hill has not coached one game at Western and I expect that he will have 3 or 4 losing seasons before we will know how good he is. If you are expecting winning records out of either program next year or the year after, you will be dissapointed.

You don't know crap what I will or won't be disappointed in. You had your head so far up Speir's butt for 6 seasons that your opinions don't mean dirt to me. So don't respond to my posts in the future, because I don't care what you think about anything related to WCU athletics. OK?

Funny how you think these are great hires and they just got to town. Your posts make me laugh with all your contradictions. I could care less about your expectations. You are a know it all who thinks you are always right which is far from reality.
