Former associate head coach at the University of Southern Mississippi and head coach at Valdosta State, Kiley Hill has been named head women’s basketball coach at Western Carolina University Director of Athletics, Randy Eaton announced today (July 8). Hill’s contract was approved by the WCU Board of Trustees in a special session earlier today. “Molly, Whitley, Skyler, and I are so blessed and grateful to have been chosen to lead the Western Carolina women’s basketball program,” said Hill. “The circumstances are unique and the challenges ahead are simply that – challenges. We are elated to have the opportunity to serve the surrounding communities and the WCU family, but most importantly, we are excited to share new journeys with some young people who have been through some ups and downs over the past several months.” A veteran coach with more than 25 years’ experience in collegiate women’s basketball including 17 as a head coach, Hill comes to Western Carolina after spending the last three seasons as the associate head coach at Conference USA-member, Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss. His experience also includes a 16-year stint as the head coach at Valdosta State in Georgia, and a four-year term at West Alabama in Livingston, Ala. – one as head coach preceded by three as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. “It is a true pleasure to announce Coach Hill as our next head women’s basketball coach,” Eaton said. “His level of experience and success as a head coach is exactly what we need within our women’s basketball program. During my discussions with Coach Hill about our vacant position, I was struck by his focus on the ‘whole person,’ and not simply on the basketball player. Coach Hill’s vision on empowering our student-athletes to succeed, in all aspects of their lives, was what most impressed me during his interview. I look forward to building a long-term partnership with Coach Hill, and want to welcome his wife, Molly, and his children, Whitley and Skyler, to the Catamount family.” www.catamountsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12100&ATCLID=211806655

I figure the new Chancellor stepped in and had a lot to do with this hire. She was interim Chancellor at Valdosta State when Coach Hill was at Valdosta State. I do not think it is a coincidence that we hired Mr. Hill. He probably came to Cullowhee with some assurances from the Chancellor because of the previous relationship he had with our new leader. Good, bad or indifferent, but that explains why we got a guy with his qualifications in my opinion. He has a direct line to the lady in charge which goes a long way toward making Mr. Hill feel good about accepting the position. On paper, this looks like a very solid hire.
Think about it.
GO CATS!!!

Not sure of their relationship, as Dr. Brown was named on May 23, 2016 at Valdosta, and Coach Hill was named at Southern Miss on May 26, 2016. Maybe Dr. Brown knew the AD at Valdosta, but doubtful she knew Coach Hill. Previous University leadership, I am guessing, would have made hiring a "white male" almost impossible. Makes more sense to me that Dr. Brown ended that way of thinking. But, as always, just conjecture.

I hope your "figuring" is correct. That means Dr. Brown was able to step in and prevent another embarrassment for the Cats. It means she was able to make a few calls and be directed to Coach Hill and convince him to take over the long floundering women's basketball program at WCU. We have never had a chancellor that could do that(when previous chancellors intervened they made matters worse). It is what we have all been asking for. If your "figuring" is correct, she is a better AD than Eaton. I'm choosing to be hopeful until I see something that changes my mind.

I don't think it is a coincidence that this guy is from Valdosta State. Chancellor Brown and Coach Kiley know many of the same people and she was aware of his record and accomplishments at VSU. Also, at the end of the video where he says his opening remarks, she makes an appearance. Again, that is not an accident. This has her fingerprints all over the decision. I am sure that she will give all the credit to Randy and never admit what happened so that Randy can save face. Randy will let her do this because he needs to feel like everyone appreciates everything he has done for athletics at Western. :-) Laying the foundation and all for the last 8 years. :-) In my book, Kelli gets kudos for this move and I give her all the credit. Also, she was probably trying to avoid another embarrassment for Western Carolina. So, yes, I think my figuring and ciphering is correct. :-)

Is Dr Brown committed to winning championships?.. or just not being embarrassed?

Hopefully she wants championships, and will be/is embarrassed by the continued overall poor performance of Catamount athletics.
