"Regulated sports betting and horse racing should begin across North Carolina in the first half of next year after Gov. Roy Cooper signed into law Wednesday legislation that greatly expands gambling opportunities in the ninth-largest state.
The new law says betting could begin as early as next Jan. 8 but as late as mid-June 2024, leading to new revenues for the state and what supporters expect will lead to new jobs and stronger in-state pro sports franchises.
Much of the sports wagering tax revenues would go to local, regional and state athletics initiatives, athletic programs at most University of North Carolina system schools and problem-gambling programs. Cooper said on Wednesday he hoped that more future proceeds would help public education."

Does this potentially mean (reading between the lines) that NC might use some of the revenues from this tax to provide direct athletic support for state colleges and universities? I think this could open the door to that. If I were King, I would limit the aid provided by the state to the have nots and not to the UNCs and NCSUs, etc. and not allow any of the private schools to have any support from the taxing of this. Like most people, I loathe when private schools get state or federal funds. Takes money away from public education.
Just curious if anyone thinks that this opens the door for direct support for athletics from the state of NC. Not the haves but the have nots to level the playing field.

Does this potentially mean (reading between the lines) that NC might use some of the revenues from this tax to provide direct athletic support for state colleges and universities? Among the uses for the revenue: -$44.8 million (by fiscal 2027-28) for the state’s General Fund. This is the pot of money the legislature uses to pay for most government spending. -$2 million for gambling addiction education and treatment programs. -$1 million to North Carolina Amateur Sports to pay for youth sports equipment and facilities. -A minimum of $300,000 each to 13 of the 17 University of North Carolina constituent institutions to support college athletic departments. By 2027-28, this is estimated to be $1.7 million each. The schools include Fayetteville State University and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. -$1 million for the North Carolina Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council to make grants to sports teams with travel expenses and grants to attract sporting events for nonprofessional athletes. -Funding for the N.C. Major Events, Games, and Attractions Special Fund to encourage and attract major events. This is estimated to be $26.9 million in 2027-28. www.fayobserver.com/story/news/2023/06/07/sports-betting-coming-to-nc-revenue-to-fund-college-and-youth-sports/70295560007/#:~:text=Among%20the%20uses%20for%20the%20revenue%3A%201%20%2444.8,to%20support%20college%20athletic%20departments.%20...%20More%20items

Back in late March, the legislation read that all schools except the FBS schools would get that minimum of $300,00/yr.

This shows my ignorance, but I thought I would ask. The 300,000 for all state schools that are not FBS, would that include the FCS football schools that are FBS in all of their sports with the exception of football?
