I was there! App State brought big numbers to that game. Will it take a rivalry game/team to help us top that number?

And that would’ve been before the west side was built. Metal bleachers only. Talk about standing room only!

That was a made up number! There were generously probably around 11,000 at best. The east stands hold 10,000 and were full. Only portable metal bleachers, generously seating no more than 500, existed on the west side. There were maybe 500 additional spectators who were standing around without seats. The way our stadium is configured, it would be and still is impossible for an additional 5,000 standees to be at our games. Back then there was no way to get a correct count of the attendance as paper tickets were issued and there was no way to collectively count all of them plus students just came to the game and showed their ID and were never counted. We now have a way to get a better idea of our attendance. Consequently, our biggest crowds have come since we added the nearly 4,000 seats on the west side!

How about 1977 vs. Appy? What was the attendance? I recall some folks sitting on the blacktop next to turf. Pusey, Lipford, Tolleson!!

I was at the 94 game and it was the largest attendance ever. RetiredCat would be the best person to confirm that, but the east stands were packed and the west side bleachers were full and folks were standing on the sidelines and on the steps of the Ramsey center. I have been to many other games before and after where the attendance was announced at 13,000 plus and there were many more people at the 94 game.

We did a recount on tickets Monday morning after the 1994 App State game and found the announced crowd was 58 tickets/student gate clicker count less than what was announced. Over 5,100 standing room tickets were sold on Friday and at the game on Saturday. Many of those standing room ticket holders ended up in the student section crammed in with our students and in every nook and cranny. I saw the printouts from our business manager and the bags of cash. The campus police was called to escort our ticket manager to the administration building for the deposit. I don't think that number was made up....too many people were involved.

I watched the game with quite a few people on the Ramsey Center steps. I seem to recall at least one game where they did have the steps roped off and counted those of us up there - might have been the '94 App game but I am not 100% sure. I didn't think it was, so those literally couple hundred "spectators" could have made the attendance even higher.
