Edit: This link works on my iPhone but does not on my laptop. Don't know what is up with that.Has this been taken down? I get an error when I try to bring it up. The page loads but I get a "something went wrong" message. Can somebody share a breakdown or at least some of the main points? I also wonder if Coach Bell being on the referees non-stop just about the entire game is starting to backfire a little. I totally get how he felt like as a program we tended to have calls either go against us or not be called at all, so he has been trying to do the old "Coach K" approach of working them to try and get future calls. But man - it seems like every time they show him he is out on the field and giving a ref an earful. Not saying that a whole bunch of them they don't deserve, but sometimes I think you have to pick and choose your battles. I think riding the SoCon refs like he does is way overdue and my opinion is that it will pay dividends in spades. The refs have to know that Kerwin is paying attention. I think they get absolutely no benefit of the doubt and Coach should continue to ride them hard on any questionable call. The psychology of this will pay off. Badger and beatdown is what he should do until their performance improves. Kerwin is smart and knows what he is doing. I agree with both of you. I worry about too much protest (Bell getting what I thought was a very unwarranted penalty @ Wofford), but he has at least twice this season gotten calls on challenges overturned.

I agree if it is a legitimate argument then fight for your team and make the refs do there job right.....But don't become the chicken screaming wolf every play if it is a no brainier.....We had 11 flags for 96 yards so not sure how effective Coach Bell was at Wofford.....By the way someone mentioned Coach K working the refs.....When Coach K came into the ACC he had no choice but do that because Dean Smith had the refs in his back pocket and was getting all the calls......Go BIG DUKE.....

I understand your point and agree to a certain extent, but for years Western has never ever gotten a break from the SoCon refs in football. I have only been following the team religiously since 1980 but I know that there are some dishonest shenanigans going on when it comes to SoCon refs and Western Carolina Football. The SoCon officials have continually put their finger on the scales when it comes to Western Carolina for the past 43 years. Maybe before 1980 they were honest, but I have seen consistent no calls against our opponents and unfair dishonest calls against Western for 43 years. So, any amount of grief that Kerwin Bell gives the refs no matter how loud or even obnoxious is way over due and well deserved. The officiating has been so egregious against Western Carolina, any amount of abuse that Kerwin can dish out is well deserved. It is like the SoCon refs just don’t like Western. Granted, they are the worst officials in all of D1 football, but to not get a break in over 40 years is empirical evidence that something is not Quite right. Also, I am not the only one on this board that feels this way.

I don't want to make it sound like a lot of his complaining is not fully warranted. I was just making the observation that it seems like almost every time they show him on camera it is because he is out on the field giving them a hard time. He should do so on every egregiouis call. If he wouldn't have gone nuts a couple of times we would have had some plays go the wrong way - some that could have even changed the game (like an interception that was not an interception that would have not been overturned without him complaining). I applaud him for challenging things that really need to be challenged - that is what good coaches should do.
