I wonder if WCU had made it what we would have had. I say around 8-9K I'm sure we would have had a nice crowd if we played at home in the first round. However, I didn't realize the amount of injuries we have to the starters, VMI took a lot of our starters out. It would have been very difficult to win, whoever the opponent would have been.

That also shines a light on the depth issue. We often are talking about the defense, but honestly we are deeper on that side of the ball, routinely subbing guys in and out. Other than at WR and RB (Adams and the others aren’t Reid, but very few RBs in the country are), we really seemed to find our struggles when a 2nd and then 3rd O-lineman went out starting in the Furman game. And of course we saw what happens when a QB with very little experience in tight situations is forced into the lineup. Very tough situation for Brody.
Furman locked up the auto-bid beating UTC with their FR backup. UTC just won a playoff game with their backup QB. A healthy and deep o-line is probably one of the best things to have to keep the skill guys from getting hurt, and it is rare to have a true “next man up” guy that has the same skills as the starter at some positions. But we need more dudes and we have to figure out how to get more of them game-ready. Especially in the trenches where kids get at least nicked up all the time.
I agree that being down so many starters on offense would have been a tough task. But I would certainly have preferred losing a playoff game over not getting one at all.

As for attendance, I don’t know. I am on vacation and I would have left the beach and driven to the game. I expect all the die-hards from here would, too. A decent crowd would come because it has been so long. But not sure we would have gotten more than some of these numbers.

The Thanksgiving holiday break would most likely have had a negative impact on attendance, with students and faculty away from campus, family commitments and what not. That said, I overheard several diehards saying they were hoping for a Thanksgiving-themed tailgate, had we made the playoffs and hosted a first-round game. Maybe next year we'll find out...

I hope we don’t, as I’d prefer we are seeded and get a bye and guaranteed 2nd round home game!!!
