Nah they have played hard all game. Hard to win on the road. Western has a lot of fair weather fans is the problem. I’ve never questioned the effort of any of our athletes. Never. The fact remains, they’ve lost the ability to close out close games and are letting opponents light them up. Your passive/aggressive dig at me is duly noted though.

I think the coach is losing the team or the team has given up

Right now, the Cats are in 6th place with a 5-5 record, and have lost 5 of their last 6 games. ETSU is one game back at 4-6, that's how close the Cats are to a Friday play-in game in the SoCon tournament.
Not a lot there to be proud of in conference play, I don't know what the problem is, but in my opinion we have the talent to have won those 5 games we lost. For whatever the reason, we are not winning the close games like we did earlier in the season. This is coaches' problem and I hope he can figure it out.
Whatever the problem is, some on this board are getting a little touchy about what is said, while others say things about other fans that shouldn't be said. We are all Catamount fans here so let's give each other a break, I didn't say you have to like the wins and losses, but no need to put down the team or other fans or the coaching staff.
We are respectable now, and are in every conference game we play, that's saying a lot, and many here have very short memories on past seasons...

I think the hopes of a title are out the window especially if we go to a play in game

Yes, we are respectable, but our 4 big men on the roster scored a total of zero points against Wofford.

With some time to kill this morning, and as someone with a "front row" seat, I weigh in. The challenging: 1. We get almost nothing from our bigs. Pretty much playing 4 on 5. When we do get them the ball, which is rare, it is often fumbled and mishandled. Rebounding totals from them near zero. 2. Vonterious, for all his positives, is a black hole at times. Having said that, without him we might be 7-16. But, his game is driving to the hole and when that happens, every else stands and watches. Shut down the others, let him get his 25. 3. Live or die by the 3. When we are on, we are difficult to beat.
The biggest issue is on defense so--- #4 -- Russell, and Tre and DJ--for all their positives --- Hustle, spunk, when, on making 3s -- they are consistently being beaten on drives to the basket by opposition guards who get layups or floaters in the lane. Chatt,VMI,UNCG,ETSU every time does this to us. And when these same guards for opponents are making 3s like Bonham of UTC, we see them hitting 50-60 percent. Wofford did the same thing.
#5--- Opposition BIG Men. UNCG, Chatt, SAmford. A big man who can make the 3 and also drive by our 3 bigs. All 3 of those games they devastated us. And,all of those players knocked down free throws as well. Wofford's big -- not him at 32%.
#6 -- with our inconsistent and thin bench, our starters are playing heavy minutes and it seems that our legs start to go, especially late in games. So our bench play does not help consistently. Pelote has moments of brilliance, but then disappears.
With all that said, we are still barely losing. Every game has been nearly down to the wire. A bounce here, a turnover there, and we win perhaps all of them. Would you have taken 16-7 at the start of the year?? Wins at Notre Dame and Vanderbilt? There are good teams in the SoCon!
No one expected us to win every game. This team is one to support, and all Cat fans should stop dumping on them. I for one, hope Coach Gray stays 40 years. He is a man of integrity and passion. This program is climbing, and the future is bright.

This program is climbing, and the future is bright. Very solid assessment. Just think, if we were able to hold on to Tyzhaun Claude where this team would be. I like the change in putting Granger in the starting lineup yesterday. But we have got to get some kind of production from the bigs in order to keep defenses honest. They double team Woolbright, and clog the paint because his outside shooting is lacking, compared to his slashing and scoring at the rim. When Jackson shoots well, we win. But when he isn't hitting shots, others need to step up. DJ Campbell is a baller. He needs more touches and shots. He's making almost 50% of his 3 points attempts. Get him the ball. Jones also needs more shots. He can score in bunches (VMI). But he will go 8-10 minutes and times without a shot attempt. Williams needs to step up and be assertive in the post. He's the most talented scorer we have at the 4/5 position, but he lets less talented opponents push him around. The Cats are too good to be losing these close games. We need to figure this out fast, and get back in the #3 or #4 spot by the end of the regular season, if we want a shot to win the tournament.
