The athletic department is in BIG trouble fibacially. I think Alex Gary is gone soon because of the financial situation. The board of Trustees has not renewed his contract to my knowledge. The Catamount Club is essentially non-existent.
I think we’ll get our new facilities but the annual budget is going to be a BIG issue for all of our sports. Program budgets were already cut last year. It’s not a great position to come into. (Another reason JG is leaving).

We should use this as a learning experience and offer Kerwin Bell a lengthy extension now. If we offer Gray a compelling offer earlier he may not look to leave as is we end up in a bidding war and let's be honest we're not winning those.

I think resources has a lot to do with it. Being a head coach and paying for some of your staff positions isn’t ideal in a D1 program. He paid for a lot of stuff for the players so they could have good gear or clothing. He invested his money into making our program good. Salary or not it’s a tough position. Add in that we don’t have NIL money.

Like AG over extended himself on what he has been doing or the giving of money has dropped off? Also what do you mean the CC is non existent?

We’ve spent a lot of money and we haven’t brought it in. The Catamount Club used to be a staff of seven and now it is two people who have no fundraising experience. Both are great people and WCU alum but they have no idea what they’re doing. One lives in Charlotte and the other barely comes to events. There is no fundraising happening in that department. We were $300k/$400k in the hole last year and the Chancellor/Advancement had to bail the department out. Coaches were told they are now in charge of their own fundraising and they have to raise $10k+ each year or it comes out of their budget the next year. It’s a mess. A lot of our coaches pay for gear, food, etc out of pocket. They know they have to to make it.

I did not know AG had screwed the budget up so bad

The site says you are wrong.
