Serious discussion please. Does this mean an end of the Battle for the OMJ? Will basketball & other sports still be scheduled? Will this hurt the WCU athletic revenue and bottom line?

I think it has too. Once ASU become FBS, they will not play home and home games with us. It would certainly not be fair traveling to Boone every year, so the jug game dies, IMO. I'm sure they will not be able to pay us what an ACC or SEC team can for our money game, so I don't think there will be any kind of regular meetings in the future (not sure they'd want to play us anyway, as they no longer consider us relevant).
We be foolish not to play them in other sports, as long as they are willing to go home and home, much like we do with UNCA. They would remain good OOC games for all other sports besides football.
That football "home game" every other year should be the only revenue lost. We need to develop another rival fast, someone that will bring WCU fans to Cullowhee.

It will mean the death of the jug battle. Our only hope is that we can beat ASU this year, so the jug will retire in Cullowhee. Otherwise, we'll never see it again.
Maybe this will be a little motivation for the football team. ASU will be playing for nothing this coming season. They can't win the conference or go to the FCS playoffs.

I think we could develop a good rivalry with Furman and ETSU, IF we can start winning football games. It would take some time to replace ASU, but ETSU could become a big rivalry game in football and basketball.

MEH In the early 80s, I would say Furman more than any other SoCon team was Western's rival. The 2 games in 1983 were CLASSICS! Not to mention when WCU eeked out a 20-19 win in Gville in 86, it led to a "memorable" postgame rant by Jimmy Satterfield to the shock of the Furman faithful. LOL! Oh yes, there is a rival there, but it's been quiet for some time, no thanks to our performance as well. GO CATS!
