N.C. State’s loss was Western Carolina University’s gain in the case of the leading tackler from Swain County’s last state-championship football team.
Redshirt freshman Lee Pattillo has completed his transfer from the Wolfpack, who gave the 210-pound linebacker a preferred walk-on position in 2012.
Pattillo and Maroon Devils (15-1) won the NCHSAA 1-AA championship two years ago. He received All-Smoky Mountain Conference and All-WNC honors and was named to the NCPreps.com 1-A all-state team after averaging a team-high 8.0 tackles per game.
Pattillo’s father, Sam, was Swain County’s coach before resigning after three seasons in January 2012.
