Did anyone get to check out first practice on Saturday morning for the fall workouts?

We've got a lot to look forward to this Spring, based upon what I saw on Saturday. No one pitched more than 1 inning.
Some of the new pitchers were very impressive. Taylor Durand (JUCO LHP) is going to be a factor. Freshmen pitchers B. J. Nobles and Korey Anderson will be heard from as well. Jordan Smith and Tyler Powell did not pitch, for whatever reason.
Jason Smith (who had a medical redshirt last year as a FR) is going to be a factor this Spring in the field as well as with his bat. Matt Smith is going to get playing time in the OF. Adam Martin was really making good contact. Luke Gragg and Bradley Strong also. Freshman Dylan Prevatte definitely knows what to do with a bat.
Word on the street is that CitDogs are going to be coming back to Whee this Spring (instead of us going to Charleston for a weekend) due to some schedule-balancing the SoCon had to do because Chuck is gone. This is a break for us; since I expect us and CitDogs will be pre-season favorites to win the regular season. (They have a lot coming back also.) We will probably get a shot at playing them in Charleston since the tournament will be down there in '14 and '15.
Austin Neary continues to be plagued by recurring shoulder problems. Although he's still in school, the chances of him playing any more Catamount baseball appears slim.
Freshman Addison Parrish had some shoulder surgery and will miss the Fall practice. Spring participation is iffy this year.
I'm excited about the prospects for 2014. Got to find a closer, decide which of 3 folks will start at 3B (all of them are good candidates) and figure out who's going to join Cody Jones and Dykota Speiss in the OF.

I agree with SCCat66, it was good to see him at the scrimmage. There was a good crowd there 100+, best turn out for a fall practice that I have seen, hope this translates into big home crowds this spring. The Cats looked good at the Saturday Scrimmage. Returning players looked good and should perform better than last year. Bats should be strong. 3 - 4 good looking freshman arms. Pitching should be a plus this year if the freshman arms come through. The coaching staff is addressing the needs at third base and right field, several options for them to work through. Rumors regarding the 2014 schedule sound good, hope they are true, RPI should go up. Due to C of C leaving it looks like we will be playing El Cid at Fortress Cullowhee rather than Charleston we need a good crowd for that series since the El Cid team and fans have been A holes the past couple of years. The SoCon Tourney will be in Charleston this season and next. Austin Neary who has left the team due to shoulder problems. William Frazier has left the team for the same reason opting to stop playing ball over having surgery.

Play Citadel April 18-20 in Cullowhee. BTW slim chance RPI goes up. Have 2 non conference weekend series at home vs teams that will hurt our RPI for year. First one is vs team that was 15-39 with a RPI of close to 300 and second series vs team finished close to 200 so its gonna be tough.
Nice week where play host Clemson Wednesday, vs North Florida Friday, vs Buffalo Saturday, at UGA Sunday, at Georgia Tech Tuesday and at Kennessaw St Wednesday.

North Florida will be tough. Teams coached by Smoke Laval are always tough.

The mini round robin in Athens is March 7, 8, 9th...at Ga Tech March 11th and Kennessaw 12th...
I just hope the games with Clemson, Ga Tech, Wake Forest, Washington State, and uga...or I should say, those teams have a great year to help jack the RPI....or again...be faced with what happens in Conf Tourney to determine fate...no matter if when regular season like last year...Still think NCAA popped a big turd on that screw job in not selecting WCU...

Campbell went 49-10, won their side of Big South by 4 games and had RPI in low 40s at selection time and did not get in. So what does that tell ya? If you don't schedule tough weekend series and mid week games you better win your conference tourney. The Big South and SoCon are now very similar and SoCon drops even more next year. Not saying we can't get at large with the schedule but will be difficult. WCU in tough spot cause some schools won't schedule us for 3 game series so figure have to go on road but since school doesn't put jack in baseball we can't.
However the idiots can pay $30k for football game o n the road to be televised. I really hope that's not true but wouldn't surprise me.
