'...I've also become more of a realist since the Kent Briggs & Dennis Wagner era(s).'
I'd call it the Dennis Wagner error...

I typically dont attend the D2 game on the schedule usually opting for a weekend in Chapel Hill or Cincinatti as I figure we SHOULD win that game. Not saying this to call you out, but we need Catamount fans in their seats for any home games we play, regardless of opponent. You're not the only one that skips games for this reason, but please reconsider. We need good crowds at home as a sign of support for the players.

This team needs wins to build upon. I have no problem with it. The Elon victory was a hurdle cleared but now they need to being to feel like they can sustain week after week.

I know this team and program needs wins, but I see no benefit to playing DII's... Play people you can beat at your own level so the games mean something and you have something to hang your hat on in recruiting... means nothing to beat a DII and players don't want to play against teams that are a level below them.

....... if we want to grow as a program we need to be able to beat DII and not fear them. I was in the stands in 2010. There was no fear of playing them from Catamount fans or the coaching staff that year. Losing to Tusculum was unthinkable. Sometimes you just don't know you should be afraid. We were not afraid of Mars Hill last season, but only survived that game by 7 points, 30-23. We had to pull out 20 points in the 4th quarter, or that one would have been our second loss to a DII team in 3 years. I will play the opposite and say, YES, that CATS team was shaken by Tusculum even as early as the pregame warmups. I was at the PZ when Tusculum got off their buses and then came out of the locker room in full pads as WCU warmed up. The entire Pioneer team went to midfield and did some cadence together towards the CATS and you could almost see that WCU was shocked. TC talked smack the entire warms up session and then when they returned that Jaynes fumble 90 yards for a TD, Western was toast. Guy sitting beside me even commented on that taunt before the game and how Western did not respond. That game was painful.

As I said, losing to Tusculum was unthinkable. I'm quite sure Tusculum was confident when they arrived in Cullowhee, if you play a game doubting you can win, you will lose. Any good coach worth his salt, will have his team up for each game and convinced they can beat their opponent.

I do remember what I remember and I remember nothing but misery watching that game.
