Interestingly enough at half before the percussion section started playing they were acting like football players getting pumped up. I don't want to criticize the band because prior to this year they were the major draw to the game in recent years, let's try to realize the winning is only recent and the focus is now being shared when it used to be just them. There has to be a culture change and my hope is the administration, AD, coaches, and band director get together and create a new culture of shared respect and support. We are all in this together and the whole school needs to be together.

However, the only reason a university has a marching band is to support the football program, not have a football program so we can also have a marching band.

Agree and understood, butttttt it was the other way around for a long time. We need to work together to make this thing happen.

Me and about 7,000 of my friends didn't stay at home, and we reaped the rewards of seeing a Catamount victory over Wofford. A great day for the Cats.

As a member of the marching band, I would agree that we don't play nearly enough in the stands. Most of the time it is percussion only pieces. I will say that there is only a certain amount of time that we can actually play, there is a lot of communication between the people running the advertisements and our directors. That said, I still feel that we have more opportunity to play. We only have a handful of songs that we have ever played, and we only seem to play anything if we score. We did not play a single song during the 1st or 3rd quarter against Wofford, and while from where I was standing we were very much into the game and making as much noise as we could, I understand where some giant 500 person stands tunes could help set the atmosphere. I think it is silly that we don't have the FSU type of band thing going on in the stands with giant intimidating tunes. We have the band sitting RIGHT THERE.
It is an easy change though! The field show is ready and only being cleaned now, so if you guys show that you want us to take some time to get some stands music ready then I definitely think it could happen.
As for the comment about percussionists getting pumped up "like football players", it is silly to think that is a bad thing. They want to get excited to perform, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Don't be the one that stays home this weekend. Don't miss this game with Mercer, you'll regret it Sunday if you stay home Saturday.
