We are 16-24 all time against UTC and have lost 5 in a row to them. Thanks. 5 isn't that bad. Time to get 17th win this weekend. and the 5 in the row were during some of UTC's more sluggish years? Anyone?

UTC's recent success has seemed to coincide with Russ Huesman being brought in as the coach. Their story seems similar to what we are starting to see at WCU - found the right leadership and started seeing donations increase by hiring a first-time head coach who had seen lots of success at other FCS schools (stop me if you have heard this). Under Huesman they had gone 6-5 every year except 2011 (they were 5-6), and typically finished between 3rd and 6th. Last year they had a breakout season, finishing 8-4 (6-2 in SoCon) to finish in a 3-way tie for the conference championship. They were probably the last team to be left out of the playoffs last year. Since 2009, they are 31-25 overall and 23-17 in the SoCon. Not over the top numbers, but I think an uptick from where they were and obviously way ahead of where Western has been for the past several years.
My hope is WCU is making this same kind of transition UTC saw last season, and that both teams are going to stay in the top 2 or 3 for years to come under Coach Speir and Coach Huesman. Like I have seen other posters state on some of the message boards, I think it might make for a good rivalry to develop between the 2 schools. The best thing/fastest way to lead to an immediate rival is both schools being at the top.
