The Undrafted Rookie Making the Most of His OpportunityAn NFL touchdown and a backflip to celebrate. Not a normal Saturday night for undrafted rookie Detrez Newsome, but it’s definitely a night he won’t forget. “I was excited,” Newsome said. “So I had to live the moment real quick.” The 5-10, 210-pound running back out of Western Carolina made a splash in the Bolts’ first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, and has continued that success into this past week of training camp. Head Coach Anthony Lynn has taken notice of him and praised what he’s seen out of Newsome. “He’s been showing good vision and instincts the whole camp, and I thought it showed up in this preseason game,” Lynn said on Saturday night. www.chargers.com/news/the-undrafted-rookie-making-the-most-of-his-opportunity

What's wrong with that post? They are now the "L.A." Chargers. But I'm being picky. GREAT to hear D-Train is showing his stuff. He must be impressing the coaching staff.

I stayed up and watched the game. They said he has a real good chance to be the 3rd string tailback, but he was the best back on the field last night. He gained positive yards every time he touched the ball and it was not easy to bring him down. He did not start because they have a guy that has been there, but it is only a matter of time before he is the starter.

Detrez had two negative runs (5-7yds and 2-3yds) when they tried sweep right. Neither were his fault as blocking broke down. He looked great and very comfortable out there. Man, if he beats out Melvin Gordon, he'll be All Pro his first year. Don't think that's going to happen, but do think he's got to screw up not to make the roster.

I know Gordon is good, but if you watched the game, Detrez looked stronger throughout. Detrez has dealt with this his entire life. He had great numbers in HS and did not get recruited heavily. He comes to Western and puts up great all purpose numbers and he does not get drafted because of his pro day not being stellar in some areas. His speed was fine, but he did not do great in other areas. You can't measure heart and you can't measure what someone can do on game day until game day comes. Detrez is a premier back and he will be an all pro someday and we will all be saying we knew him when because he has heart and he is a winner. I love it when the so called experts are proven wrong and people like Detrez succeed despite the odds. He just gets it done.
