Here is the pre-season coaches poll for FCS: www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/fcs-coaches-pollI don't put a ton of stock in pre-season polls, but does the fact that the SoCon has 3 teams in the top 25, and 1 team in the "others receiving votes" mean the SoCon is getting some love and the coaches think our conference is a contender this year? Also, with WCU positioned in the "others receiving votes" does that mean a fast start will likely propel us into the top 25 more quickly (not putting the cart before the horse, just a "what if")

I think with us in the "others receiving votes" in preseason, places the Cats in a good position to move into the top 25 if we have a fast start (winning our first three games).
I'm surprised Mercer was not in the mix.

Being an "others receiving votes" but only having 2 votes doesn't make me think wins in our first 3 games (where we should be the prohibitive favorite in each) will move the needle much. There are 12 teams in the ORV category who have more votes than us, and if they all have manageable early schedules at least some of them will stay ahead of us.
In all honesty, I wouldn't expect us to legitimately approach the top-25 unless lots of teams lose or until we show how good (or bad) we are with the stretch of Furman and Samford. My guess is we would have to be no worse than 4-1 at that point to find ourselves in the coaches poll. It is fun to think about it, but at this stage I hope we don't lay an egg in any of those first 3 games - we need to make sure we win all the games we are supposed to, and then find a way to close out another couple.

Lots of teams ahead of us will lose games, if we start hot, we can move up. The important thing is we are on their radar at the start of the season, and we have three early winnable games to start the season. We take care of business, and hope for losses above us.....
