It's now 8 days until the kickoff of Catamount football on Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 1, 2018, against the Newberry College Wolves, in Cullowhee. For the season's kick-off game, the Cats will host a "White Out" in E.J. Whitmire Stadium as the Cats sport their all-white look, white Adidas jerseys over white pants; and for the fourth straight year, a post-game fireworks extravaganza. To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the 100-day football countdown each day until kickoff day. Today, we'll highlight a quarterback that wears #8 #8 A.J. Curry Position: Quarterback Height/Weight: 6'5" 210 Class: Freshman Hometown: Mt. Airy, Ga. High School: Habersham Central HS Prior to Western Carolina: Dual-threat QB that is listed as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and 247Sports ... Named Georgia 8-AAAAAA All-Region at QB ... Converted to QB prior to his senior prep season after playing mostly as a wide receiver despite playing the position growing up ... Threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 800 yards and 13 TDs on the ground as a senior, averaging 329.5 yards per game in his final year as a prep ... High school coach was Benji Harrison. Personal: Is the son of Aviean and Felicia Curry. Courtesy WCU Athletics Media Relations

Given the play we expect from Adams as the starter and Jones as the back-up, I would assume (and actually hope) a redshirt year is on the horizon for Curry - with the new rule he can still play in up to 4 games. But with his background, is there any chance he might see some time at WR? he played it in high school, looks to be a great athlete, and he is 6'5". With 3 other WRs listed at 6'3" or taller, running 2 or 3 (or 4) of those guys out there could be a TOUGH match-up in the redzone!
Long-term, I am excited to see him and Jones battling it out for the QB spot after Adams is gone, but we have a good problem - lots of good looking, athletic kids that we need to find out how to get them on the field.

His heart is at QB. No doubt about it. But he will play where he is needed to get the W. The school he (and younger brother) left before his senior season had him at 4 different positions. Just found out he probably will be redshirting and that's ok with him. More time to learn and grow on this level. We are excited to see what he can do under Coach Glenn. A lot to learn and catch up with but he's excited just to get an opportunity! He is extremely happy at WCU on and off the field, and as his mom that is what I know that's huge!

fecurry8 - welcome to the board, and we are very excited that your family has chosen WCU. AJ has the size and athleticism and a Senior year that I expect gave him several options of where he wanted to go to college, and we are happy he chose Cullowhee but I think I speak for all of us that we are ecstatic about your words of him being so happy with where he is. As stated, take our "the sky is falling" posts for what they are - mostly a bunch of old farts who love Western and are just yearning for a championship and playoff appearance (to start). Getting "real" details (within reason) from posters like you and Smack are nuggets of gold compared to what most of us are going to have to say. So please post often, but seriously accept our welcome!

😂😂😂@"old farts"! I take that to mean seasoned Catamounts!! I knew AJ had made the right decision when I heard him say "it feels good to be home" while we walked across the field a few months ago. We love the atmosphere, not only on gameday, but every day. We aren't far away so we have the opportunity to come visit more often than some. Can't wait to see all of these guys succeed! It's gonna be a great experience! Thank you for welcoming him to the Catamount Family!

Airy on the old road headed to my family in Florida during breaks. Now I drive past your home town on GA 365 headed from ATL to Cullowhee.
