Times have changed for The Citadel Football. The stadium capacity a couple years ago was around 20,000 and near capacity crowds were common in the 80s and 90s. We (WCU) played in the NCAA I-AA National Championship game there is 1983 in front of around 17,000...a record for the championship game at that time. Furman drew 12,000 plus routinely in the 80s and 90s and Chattanooga would usually packout old Chamberlain Field with over 10,000. None of those schools draw 60% of what they did 25 years ago.

I wonder if the situation to get state funds for Coastal's stadium is somehow playing a part behind the scenes? As I recall there was a lot of back and forth with the state legislature before they agreed to provide some funding. On a side note and one that might play a small part here is how Coastal used some interesting tactics and creative accounting to meet the NCAA's attendance requirements.
