I would argue that after 1 week it is hard to put Mercer that high. I think they are WAY better than what they showed (same with WCU), but losing 66-14 seems like it would be deserving of a lower rank. With ETSU, they ended up doing what we all hoped the Cats would do and put away a D2 team 28-7 rather than having to win in come from behind fashion (we all would probably be a lot more calm if WCU would have done the same and controlled the 2nd half like the Bucs did).
So again, PURELY basing this on this past weekend's expectations, I'd have WCU, ETSU, and Mercer in a tie for the spot above VMI. If ties are not allowed I'll be super-critical and say ETSU at #6, WCU at #7, and Mercer at #8. I would expect a big bounce-back from Mercer against a Pioneer foe this weekend.

If we are looking at scores only - not stats - ETSU didn't impress over Mars Hill. They dominated in Rushing vs. MH, but passing was pretty close as well as TOP. You are right however, that this week didn't tell us a lot. Newberry could be a much better team than Tennessee Tech, which would negate Chattanooga's power. This weekend will be a better test for a number of these schools.

At this stage of the season, power rankings don't mean a lot, except to elicit a little speculation. I think all we know at this point is Samford is #1 and VMI is #9. The rest is a toss-up.
