FROM WCU PAGE FOOTBALL: Officials at Gardner-Webb and Western Carolina have agreed to move Saturday’s scheduled football game between the Catamounts (1-0) and Runnin’ Bulldogs (1-1) to Friday, Sept. 14 with a 6:00 pm kickoff at Ernest W. Spangler Stadium due to impending threat associated with Hurricane Florence. Friday’s game is slated to be broadcast on the Catamount Sports Network with online audio available through Stretch Internet on CatamountSports.com. Information on additional CSN affiliates will be passed along when available. Airtime for Friday’s game is 5:00 pm with the Pepsi Tailgate Show ahead of the 6:00 pm kickoff. Friday’s game will also stream live on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Fabian Fuentes and Blake McCandless calling the action. “After consulting with on-campus officials and speaking with [athletics director] Randy Eaton at Western Carolina, we are in agreement that Friday gives our teams the best opportunity to play the game without adverse effects from the weather,” said Gardner-Webb Vice President for Athletics Chuck Burch, “We will continue to monitor conditions.” Fans are reminded to be cautious and stay safe as it relates to potentially traveling to Boiling Springs, N.C., for the football game on Friday evening. Please check back to CatamountSports.com and WCU’s social media outlets (@catamounts, wcu_FB on Twitter) for any additional updates. For more information on Friday’s game, or for tickets, contact the Gardner-Webb Athletics Department at (704) 406-4340.

Son confirmed Friday night at 6pm. Which sucks as youngest is playing vs HS rival but mom will be there and I’ll be in Boiling Springs.

Since many of us won't be able to get there on Friday anyway, I think they should move the game up to 2 or noon. The storm is moving faster than a few days ago, and I think the conditions will be deteriorating by Friday night. Accuweather is already calling for rain starting by 9pm tomorrow for Boiling Springs. On the other hand, weather.com (The Weather Channel) says windy, but 5% chance of rain through midnight tomorrow.

Current weather.com (Weather Channel) hourly forecast for Boiling Springs tomorrow from 5 - 9 PM: No rain, but the winds will already be up. Why on earth would GW not move the game to Cullowhee for Saturday at 1:00 pm? That way the weather would be better and more people could be there. Are they going to refund the ticket price to the folks that can't make it on Friday night? I think they would have to but who knows with that crew.

I do not know but since the game is getting played I doubt there will be a refund. Ill be there was able to get off work Friday. GWU is only 30 minutes from where I live and only 5 minutes from my parents house and where I grew up in Cliffside area.

Currently, I know this will shock you, but the forecast is a little different than yesterday. Boiling Springs shows low 80s and winds at 16 MPH during the game hours tonight. If the game would have moved to Cullowhee today or tomorrow there would be similar temps and maybe 8 MPH winds. No doubt GWU didn't want to lose a home game, and given this kind of forecasts and the relative closeness of the schools, I think this was the right decision.
Now since we gotta play, lets hope we see a D that stays in their position more, an O that gets 500+ yards, and we get a big win.
