Yes...we looked better tonight because we were playing a much weaker team than Newberry. I understand Newberry is a DII school in the SAC. Facts are Newberry dresses 93 kids for our game. Also, they had a ton of non-qualifiers that were recruited by FBS teams. GW is mediocre at best. Tonight we took care of business and played well offensively and much better on defense in the second half. My thoughts and prayers are with Jarquavious Wortham. If anyone hasn't an update, please advise. Let's put me on the Keydets next week! Go Cats! #BleedPurple

The positives. A win. Tyrie. Young. O line running the ball. Adjustments stopping the run. Going for the td at halftime. That kind of broke Gw. Lbs play. Tackling was better. The negitives. The 3rd and longs in the first half. No pass rush and secondary couldn't cover them in such situations. Tyrie locked in receivers, no check downs. The injury and Horton status. The late hit foul. The missed fg and blocked fg.
The wind in the passing and kicking no doubt played a part in each.

Wortham is ok. He got knocked out cold for 15-20 seconds and then was taken to hospital as precaution. I believe he was already released from the hospital by the time the game ended. He has feeling in all his extremities when they took him off the field.

Thanks for the update. Horton is fine. Special teams coach wanted to shake things up and use the lefty kicker lol.

Since they have a "ton" of non-qualifiers that were recruited by FBS team, I'm sure you can name some of those non-qualifiers that would have gone to FBS teams had they "qualified. All DII teams have large recruiting classes, usually 35-50 per year. So Newberry has 93 players, Western has 104 players on its roster, those numbers mean little. Western had a terrible opening game against a decent DII team that was highly motivated when they came to Cullowhee. The coaches did not have the team ready for that game, and the results showed in the final score. I don't think they will make that mistake again this season.

As I was at the Newberry game, I’m at all of them, no way did they dress 93 or anywhere close. Smallest group, in numbers, I’ve seen from a visiting team. Imho Newberry If motivated, and let’s face it vs us they were, is better then GW. Our D was missing 4 vs them as well. White was hurt, he had 2 picks last night.

Regarding Newberry, they have a few good to very good players. But they lost to Florida Tech 17-10 last weekend, and I think the combination of them being motivated, us sitting some guys, and a handful of bad decisions that let them get 2 freebie TD throws made that game what it was. I bought into the talk about them having a bunch of D1 guys who were nonqualifiers, but I started looking up some of the players and I couldn't find anything on them being guys who were supposed to go to big schools. So this seems a little more like our shock leading to some excuses.
GWU is probably as good or better than Newberry, and it looked like it was going to be another one of those games. But the GWU QB couldn't put the pressure on our D with getting out if the pocket, and after we got the first INT it felt like the guys just really picked it up. We are 2-0 and a really good chance to be 3-0 next week, and that is exactly where we all hoped and projected we would be (regardless of scores).

The newberry QB is a local guy where I live and he would have been at Florida State if he had the grades. I can tell you with certainty they get the non qualifiers that would be at big time programs if they had grades. Either way though, it’s time to move on and worry about VMI who played ETSU close.
