Mercer beats Samford 30-24 WoW FSU hangover? Chatt wins- much improved I think Wyoming beats Wofford 17-14 Furman game canceled ETSU beat VMI by 3 yesterday SoCon wide open I think. Thoughts? Actually, in the Samford game, the final score was a surprise, but in a way, it was not. Hatcher has a history of his teams choking in big games they should win, that's the main reason he was fired at Georgia Southern. While the Mocs did win, they did all they could to give the game away in the 4th quarter, giving up 17 points to UTM. They are certainly better than last season, but not enough to win the conference or even finish in the top 3. Wofford has a way of winning or losing games in the last 60 seconds. This should have been a Wofford win, but they let the Cowboys drive 80 yards in 13 plays to score the winning touchdown with less than 2 mins on the clock. That was the best drive Wyoming had the entire game.

Re: Wofford. AND the Terriers got too conservative with play calling when they had a chance to run out the clock after a late turnover. Tough loss for Wofford (and the SoCon)

To Smack's question - seems wide open. Samford did this last year and lost a game most did not expect to UTC. Wofford is going to be in close games. Furman is no doubt better than they have shown, but how much? Citadel could be 2-0 in conference, but instead find themselves 0-2. And UTC probably has to find themselves in the top 2 or no worse than 3 with their 3-0 start.
Could be another very tight race in the SoCon, but it ***might*** be with teams that weren't expected. Mercer always seems to play the expected front-runners well. Hats off to them - they played very well in what I watched yesterday. We are about 3 weeks away from knowing what our season will ultimately look like - we need to find a way to beat VMI and at worst split the Furman and Samford games on the road.

I'm not too convinced on Chattanooga's strength. Yes they are 3-0, but their opponents so far have a combined record of 0-8. No doubt, they are improved, but they need tougher tests.
